Iran says will dig hundreds of thousands of graves of 'invaders'

Senior Revolutionary Guard commander quoted in Iranian media warning Tehran will begin digging 320,000 grave plots on country's borders for slain soldiers of enemy armies, should they attack Islamic Republic

Iran continues to brace for a possible offensive against it. A senior Revolutionary Guards commander announced on Sunday that Iran would dig 'some 320,000' graves for the bodies of the slain enemy soldiers killed in a hypothetical military campaign against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Brigadier General Mir-Faisal Baqerzadeh, whose title was given by the Iranian FARS news agency as 'the Head of the Foundation for the Remembrance of the Holy Defense,' said that every border province would dig 15,000 to 20,000 graves.

While he did not single out any particular 'enemy,' the Brig. Gen. later said Iran does not "wish the families of enemy soldiers to experience what Americans had to go through in the aftermath of the Vietnam War."

Baqerzadeh said the decision to prepare the graves in advance was motivated by Iran's concern for preserving the honor of the fallen soldiers. He added that the decision was in compliance with the Geneva Convention.

Escalating rhetoric

Following the New York Times report that a recent Israeli military exercise was intended to rehearse a future attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, Tehran's rhetoric has grown increasingly harsher.

Revolutionary Guards chief, General Mohammad Ali Jafari, issued a new warning against Israel not to

attack Iran on Saturday in an interview with Iranian daily Jam-e Jam.

"This country (Israel) is completely within the range of the Islamic republic's missiles. Our missile power and capability are such that the Zionist regime, despite all its abilities, cannot confront it," he said.

"There is the possibility that by attacking Iranian nuclear sites the enemy wants to delay our nuclear activities, but any interruption would be very short since Iranian scientific ability is different from that of Syria and Iraq."
