Latet 2008: Giving With Love

Over 200,000 families in Israel sufferer from nutritional insecurity. These families lack basic foods – foods which are a survival necessity for them and their children.

The dramatic increase in food prices combined with the recent years' wage erosion, and the fact that private associations and volunteers are practically the only ones bearing the brunt of the situation, have made nutritional insecurity a growing phenomenon in modern-day Israel.

With Rosh Hashana nearing, LATET ("give") – Israeli Humanitarian Aid – has launched its fifth annual "Giving With Love" campaign, aimed at getting each and every one involved in caring for the less fortunate.

The association believes that being Israeli is showing you care and reaching out to those in need. being Israeli is giving back.

Thousands of Latet volunteers will spread across Israel between September 11-18, in an attempt to boost public awareness to the growing problem of poverty in Israel. Today's poor are the thousands of people living among us – our neighbors, coworkers, and friends – who despite having jobs are still unable to provide their families with the most basic need of all – food.

September 22-26 will see Latet hold a food drive in 200 Shufersal outlets across Israel. Thousands of volunteers will ask shoppers to make a food donation, while attending to their holiday shopping. The items donated will be transferred to Latet's distribution center, packaged and with the help of Latet's 120 partner-associations, located in 80 cities throughout the country, be given out to families in need.

Israeli Humanitarian Aid is devoted to assisting populations in need in Israel and around the world on a universal and equal basis. Established in 1996, LATET is dedicated to propulsion and active involvement of the Israeli civil society in the humanitarian field, raising social awareness, inspiring mutual obligation and philanthropy and actively working to diminish poverty.
