Hotels offer discounted stays for southern residents

Israel Hotel Association assembles list of thousands of hotel rooms to be offered at cost price to Gaza vicinity residents seeking refuge

The Israel Hotel Association announced Sunday that it would assist in hosting residents of the Gaza vicinity communities in hotels across the country in a bid to enable them to get away from the constant rocket threat.

The Association has compiled a list of thousands of hotel rooms, which will be offered to southerners wishing to leave their homes at minimum prices. Those interested in the initiative are invited to contact the Jewish Agency or their local community's administration.

The Association's President Eli Gonen said, "Since yesterday (Saturday) various bodies, including municipalities, business organizations and charity groups have approached me asking to help the south's inhabitant. The Israel Hotel Association has joined the national effort and has begun assembling a list of hotels willing to host the residents."

Gonen noted that during the Second Lebanon War thousands of northern residents were extended the same generosity and stayed in hotels for cost price.

Meanwhile, the Doral Tourism Company, which operates four holiday sites in the north, has offered southerners price cost stays at its hotels. The company's CEO Dori Dudovitch said that "at times like this it is our duty to lend any possible assistance to the residents of the south."

Kibbutz Merom Golan in the Golan heights has also offered to host Gaza vicinity families in its zimmers during the week.

Meanwhile, the Isrotel hotel chain announced it would give 10% discount on stays at its hotel to all residents of the Gaza vicinity communities until the end of January.
