Meeting with Mitchell deemed productive

Prime minister's office says Netanyahu, US envoy scheduled to meet again on Saturday

The Prime Minister's Office has announced that the meeting between Benjamin Netanyahu and the US envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell, was "useful and productive" and focused on the promotion of the peace process.

The office added that Netanyahu and Mitchell would be holding another meeting Saturday, with the participation of the prime ministers envoys to Palestinian affairs, Mike Herzog and Yitzhak Molcho.

Mitchell is holding a round of meetings in Israel and the Palestinian territories. On Thursday he met with President Shimon Peres, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

Barak told the envoy that "not obstacle is impassable," adding, "Your visit is important. We are partners in US President Barack Obama's plan for comprehensive peace in the Middle East and his initiative to work towards a two-state solution."

President Peres told Mitchell earlier in the day that expectations are on the rise and that time is short. He said suspending the process would not yield any results, but would only be dangerous.

On Saturday Mitchell is also scheduled to meet with the Palestinian Authority's leadership in Ramallah before returning to Washington.
