Peres: We'll end siege if Gaza rulers abandon terror, release Shalit

"The Israelis never understood, and do not understand now why after we unilaterally retreated from the Gaza Strip for the sake of the two-state solution would the rulers in the Strip decide to fire thousands of rockets at our citizens," President Shimon Peres said Sunday.

Speaking at the opening of the 2010 Assembly of the Jewish Agency in Jerusalem Peres added, "This question remains unanswered even today. Should Gaza agree to peace and negotiations, to release Gilad Shalit and abandon terror – there would be no need for a siege or a blockade." (Ronen Medzini)
