The meeting between the Israeli and Turkish presidents was canceled due to Shimon Peres' refusal to apologize for the raid on the Gaza-bound the flotilla. The Turks, who initiated the meeting, conditioned it with an Israeli apology – a term unacceptable by Israel.
Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon, who is currently in New York said: "Israel is not the one who should apologize, but the Turks." (Yitzhak Benhorin, Ney York)
