'Lebanon' gets 5 European Film Awards nominations

Last year's winner of Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion to compete for Best Film award

Nominations for the 2010 European Film Awards were announced on Saturday at the Seville European Film Festival. Israeli director Samuel Maoz's acclaimed film "Lebanon," last year's winner of the Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion, received five nominations and is a contender for the Best Film award as well as best direction, screenwriting, editing, and cinematography.

The other contenders for the Best Movie award include Turkey's "Bal" ("Honey"), directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu; France's "Des Hommes et Des Dieux" ("Of Gods and Men") directed by Xavier Beauvois; "The Ghost Writer" - directed by Roman Polanski, Spain's "El Secreto de Sus Ojos" ("The Secret in their Eyes"), directed by Juan José Campanella, and Germany's "Soul Kitchen", directed by Fatih Akin.

"The Secret in their Eyes" won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film last year – an award Israel was hoping to win with "Ajami".

These will be the 23rd European Film Awards. Winners will be announced during the Awards Ceremony on December 4 in Tallinn, Estonia. They will be selected by the 2,300 EFA Members.
