Reports in Egypt: Mubarak fled to Sharm by helicopter

Newspaper says ousted president left Cairo along with bodyguards after Friday prayers, his son Gamal in London

Ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has not been seen since his nationally televised address on Thursday. Egyptian newspaper Al-Youm Al-Sabe'a reported Saturday that he had fled the presidential palace in Cairo following Friday prayers. According to the report, Mubarak was transported by helicopter to Sinai.

Mubarak's special aide, his bodyguards and four snipers accompanied the ousted president, according to the report. The daily said another helicopter, which left Cairo about a half hour later, carried the resigning leader's family, including his son Alaa and his wife Heidi, and the wife of Mubarak's younger son, Gamal.

Mubarak's wife Suzanne, arrived at Sharm el-Sheikh on board a special plane at 6 pm, according to the report. The newspaper said Gamal left Cairo for London on Thursday, but the report has not been confirmed.

Al-Youm Al-Sabe'a published two photos allegedly showing Mubarak's entourage in Sharm.

The Washington Post also reported that Mubarak left for Sharm after the military threatened to topple him if he refused to resign.
