Israeli flag flying over Egypt embassy again

Following its removal and desecration at hands of Egyptian protestors last week, Israel's national flag is once again flying over embassy building in Cairo

More than a week after it was taken down during a demonstration over the deaths of the Egyptian soldiers at the Israel-Egypt border, the Israeli embassy in Cairo is once again flying the Israeli flag.

Nonetheless, the Egyptian flag which was placed there instead of the Israeli flag last week, remains in place.

Israeli flag flying once again in Cairo

Relations between Egypt and Israel have been tense recently, over the Egyptian response to the multifocal terror attack in Eilat, the accidental killing of Egyptian border guards for which Egypt held Israel responsible, the escalation with Gaza and accusations from Israel that Egypt has abandoned the Sinai Peninsula to Jihad terrorists.

Hundreds of Egyptians had gathered at the Israeli embassy in Cairo throughout last week to protest against Israel, attempted to attack the embassy and burned a number of Israeli flags.

During the protests, one Egyptian, Ahmad al-Shahat shot to fame after scaling the tall building, removing the Israeli flag and replacing it with Egypt's national colors as hundreds demonstrated outside the embassy.

In an interview with Al-Jazeera he said: "I insisted on climbing on the roof and take down the flag of the Zionist entity because that was one of the goals of the revolution – to depose Mubarak and all his friends, among them the Zionist entity."
