Report: IDF arrests Hamas' Abu Tir

Palestinian sources say senior Hamas figure in security forces' custody once again

Palestinian sources reported Tuesday that senior Hamas figure Muhammad Abu Tir was arrested overnight by IDF forces that raided his home in Kafr Aqab, north of Jerusalem.

Hamas legislator Ahmad Atun told Ynet: "Around 4:30 am, military forces raided (Abu Tir's) home, searched it and informed him and his family that he was under arrest.

Atun added that at this time, Abu Tir's whereabouts are unknown.

Muhammad Abu Tir was first arrested in an extensive raid by security forces, conducted after Gilad Shalit's abduction in 2006.

He was released in 2010, and shortly afterwards, the Jerusalem Magistrates' Court barred him from entering Israeli territory and ordered that he be transferred to the Palestinian Authority.

He refused to leave Jerusalem for the West Bank and was subsequently arrested and expelled to Ramallah.
