Hackers target Yedioth Ahronoth servers

Ynet, Ynetnews websites downed for 45 minutes following Arab-based hack into parent company's server farm

The Yedioth Ahronoth server farm was compromised Tuesday by Arab-based hackers.

As a result, access to the media group's major news websites Ynet and Ynetnews, as well as Calcalist and Xnet, was blocked for about 45 minutes. All sites are now operating normally.

The past month has seen hundreds of Israeli websites fall pray to various cyber attacks. As most of the hackers identified themselves as being based in Arab states, the hacking is believed to be ideologically-motivated.

The hacks were all perpetrated in the same manner – DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) – as the hackers flooded the websites with hundreds of thousands of queries, causing them to crash.

The attacks are part of escalating cyber-sparring between Arab and Israeli hackers.
