Police have arrested a 61-year-old homeless man on suspicion of murdering an 80-year-old woman in Jerusalem's Gilo neighborhood Thursday evening.
The man has been living in the woman's apartment for the past month.

At around noon the woman's son notified police that his mother had gone missing. A subsequent search of the woman's apartment found nothing, but a few hours later the son contacted police again. This time, police officers who were dispatched to the scene spotted the homeless man running into the apartment and locking the door behind him.
The officers proceeded to enter the apartment through the window, apprehend the suspect, and find the elderly woman's body.
The suspect, a new immigrant from Russia, was taken in for questioning, but he is not cooperating with investigators. The man's relatives said he had previously been admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Also Thursday, a 37-year-old man was stabbed to death near the parking lot of his parent's apartment building in Ashkelon. Police have yet to detain any suspects.
