12 prisoners dig tunnel, escape from Nepal jail

Officials in Nepal say a dozen inmates including Indian and Bangladeshi nationals dug a tunnel and escaped from a prison in the Himalayan country's southeast.

Police officer Chatra Karki says the inmates escaped Thursday night from the prison about 250 miles southeast of Katmandu. Police were searching the area for the escaped prisoners. The inmates dug a 40-foot-long tunnel out of the prison walls using common tools that were available inside the prison. (AP)
