US: Obama reassessing secretary of defense candidates
A senior US official told the National Journal magazine that US President Barack Obama is reassessing the list of candidates for the position of Secretary of Defense after last week it seemed as if Chuck Hagel was the preferred candidate.

The White House estimates that Hagel, known for his criticism on Israel, is not gaining Senate support. A few Democratic and Republican senators have notified that they will not support him for the position for reasons including his unwillingness to issue sanctions on Iran and his support for talks with Hamas.
