IMA: Doctors must treat HIV patients

Following a public uproar, the ethics committee of the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) decided that according to the medical code physicians must treat any patient, including those who have AIDS or carry HIV.

"Society's treatment of AIDS patients and HIV carriers is tainted with ignorance, superstition and alienation," said Ethics Committee Chairman Prof. Avinoam Reches. "The medical community is tasked with the responsibility to prevent such beliefs from permeating the medical world." (Dr. Itay Gal)
