Police chief's term expected to be extended

Amid recent reports of alleged corruption plaguing senior police officials, the government is expected to approve the extension of Police Commissioner Yoahanan Danino's term.

According to governmental regulations, the term of the police chief can be extended over three years only under emergency circumstances. The decision draft determined that emergency circumstances "apply in this case," due to "Mideast security... and its affect on domestic security, the progress of diplomatic negotiations and what that entails – possible clashes, terror activity, etc." If ministers approve the extension, the police chief will conclude his term in May 1, 2015.
