UN chief calls Mideast leaders, urges restraint
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says he urged restraint in a blitz of phone calls to the Israeli, Palestinian and other regional leaders, warning that a new wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence raises the risk of another full-blown war.

The UN chief said he also urged the Egyptian president, the rulers of Qatar and Saudi Arabia and US Secretary of State John Kerry to press the Israelis and Palestinians to return to the November 2012 cease-fire agreement and resume peace negotiations.
