A prayer to the God of Social Media

Almighty master of cyberspace, help us to maintain our sense of humor, and save me from having to unfriend or unfollow anyone.

Almighty master of cyberspace,

You who alone watches over (and reads) the billions of statuses, posts, talkbacks and tweets that whirl around your virtual universe, often condemning to hell the enemy/rival/traitor/person of opposite opinion/demented lover of Arabs/Jews/a traitor to the cause of liberalism/Palestine/nationalism/Zionism/any other ism, let cyber-peace reign among us.

Teach us to read a text we abhor and spend a tiny moment in its writer's head. Show us how to understand what we read, suspend reproach, follow a complex argument and post a respectful counter-argument. Give us words to debate rather than curses to hurl.

Make me strong enough to keep calm about stupid statuses, provocative posts, trolling talkbacks and troubling tweets. Give me the wisdom to talk respectfully and rationally with my friends, interlocutors, fellow-citizens of the republic of web-roamers, and total strangers I come across in the vast expanses of your virtual universe.

Almighty master of cyberspace, help us to maintain our sense of humor.

Save me from friends who think I am helping the enemy. My enemies (who are mostly beyond your jurisdiction, shooting live ammunition rather than words) I can handle myself.

In short, save me from having to unfriend or unfollow anyone.

Thanks and a big Like.
