Israeli eatery fails to capture prized Michelin star

London-based restaurant 'The Palomar' fails to snag an elusive star despite recent accolades, but is featured on the coveted guide's cover.

The exclusive Michelin guide, which ranks the best restaurants in the world, was published on Thursday with a picture of the Israeli- Londonian restaurant "The Palomar" featured on the guide's binding.

"The Palomar" is owned by Chef Asaf Granit and the MahneYuda group. The group is famous for running Jerusalem's renowned "Mahneyuda" eatery.

The guide's binding aside, "The Palomar" was not lucky enough to join the guide's starred restaurants, in light of the eatery's status as a culinary sensation among residents of the English capitol. The Palomar was only opened last year, and has since managed to charm its way into the hearts of locals and tourists alike, as well as several food critics.

The restaurant was awarded the titles: Restaurant of the year by GQ; Restaurant of the year by Tatler Magazine for 2015; was featured in Michelin's Bib Gourmand guide for having great price/value; 15th best restaurant in the UK in 2015; and The Sunday Observer declared the eatery a "Place that makes life a little bit better," but none of these accolades helped the eatery snag a spot in the guide.

The demand for a taste of the Jerusalem-style polenta, Yemenite Kube, and the rest of the Mediterranean dishes which match the establishments' music, has made it so the wait for a reservation at "The Palomar" is quite long, with guests often having to reserve months ahead of time in order to eat at normal hour.

News came on Thursday that the eatery was featured in the guide's recommendations, and on its binding, however it did not earn a fabled star. The star ranking system has been met with criticism from restaurateurs and dinners in the past, but is considered the most trustworthy among the world's restaurant guides. The anticipation for an Israeli restaurant with a Michelin star will have to wait for next year. But then again, who needs starts when you can enjoy a Jerusalem-style polenta in the heart of London.

"We are happy to receive the Bib Gourmand for a second year in a row," Chef Granit said, "It’s a great honor to be featured on the cover of a Michelin Guide. On this opportunity I would like to give a huge thank you to Yossi (Pappi) Elad and Tomer Amedi, who are killing it out there, at least like the beetles."
