The news system was created to counter the relatively new phenomenon of drone infiltration which can endanger planes and the safety of passengers on commercial airlines.
Indeed, landings in Ben Gurion Airport were stopped on Sunday for a few minutes after a pilot reported that he spotted a drone at 2,500 feet in the Sharon area next to the runway.
The innovative technology will be exhibited in the International Conference of Homeland and Cyber Security which will be opened on Tuesday in Tel Aviv.
The new system, developed by Elbit Systems SIGINT-Elisra, works by attacking the communications system of a drone thereby neutralizing its navigational abilities.
It capabilities include detection, identification, tracking and neutralizing of a variety of drones from both short and long distances. Once the enemy drone is detected, the system interferes with its communications and blocks its radio signals, thereby preventing the drone from implementing its mission.
The system can also distinguish between signals coming from the operator and the drone itself, meaning that it can also pinpoint the location the operator.
Moreover, it can operate on a number of drones simultaneously and provide 360 degree cover. Its main advantage is that it can be rapidly deployed in various fields in all weather conditions.
