UN responds to Regulation Bill approval, says Israel 'crossed a very thick red line'

The United Nations responded on Tuesday to the Knesset's vote to pass the Regulation Bill, which retroactively will legalize thousands of West Bank settlement homes built on private Palestinian land, offering Palestinian land owners compensation for their confiscated property.

UN representative Nikolai Maldanov said that Israel has "crossed a very thick red line" with approving the bill. The UN joins other world oranzations and nations who have condemned the bill's approval, such as France and the Palestinian Authority, with the US stating that building new settlements "may not be helpful" in achieving an Israeli-Palestinian peace.
