Mistaken identity leads to calls for revenge on social media

Arab anti-Israel activists falsely accuse 26-year-old Israeli of being Israeli embassy guard who killed 2 Jordanians; the young man and his girlfriend receive threats and hate messages calling for them to be harmed.

Jordanian anti-Israel activists on social media falsely identified a 26-year-old Israeli from Kokhav Michael as the Israeli embassy guard who killed two Jordanians after being stabbed in an attack in Amman.

After believing they had correctly identified the guard, agitators began posting pictures with the young man's face as well as that of his girlfriend. One of the posts read, "Drinking with his whore, and the tears of the righteous aren't even dry."

"I was shocked, my girlfriend starting crying," said the young man in an interview with Ynet.

In addition to pictures of him and his girlfriend, the man received threats and hateful messages calling him a "murderer" and a "filthy Zionist." Further posts on Arab social media networks called for revenge against the "despicable murderer."

"This morning I woke up to one of my friends sending me a message with my picture and Arabic writing. They asked me if I was the security guard from Jordan," said the young Israeli, who immediately filed a complaint with police.

"It's important that they understand it isn't me. I've never been to Jordan and I have no intention of going there. My girlfriend called me and told me that she also got these pictures. It's terrifying that our pictures are all over the internet and people are swearing at me and calling for revenge against me."
