The four suspects—Bedouin residents of the Negev all in their twenties and thirties—were arrested following a series of burglaries near Moshava Kinneret in the north. However, the gang is suspected in dozens of similar crimes in various kibbutzim and business throughout Israel.
The gang is known for using golf carts stolen from kibbutzim to transport stolen safes to a temporary location before breaking them open and making off with the contents.
The suspects were finally tracked down by detectives with the Central District.
According to police, the gang was active for a sustained period of time and succeeded in stealing vast sums of money. "This was a clever group that operated in a systematic manner. Investigators utilized advanced operational capabilities to track the suspects and collect evidence against them.
"We invested significant resources in order to return a sense of security to the public, which was harmed by the actions of the suspects," said police in a statement.
The four suspects had their remand extended until Thursday.
