MK Hazan gets security after receiving threats from Hamas

Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein decides to assign security detail to rebel MK Oren Hazan, who received threats from Hamas after he hurled insults on a bus carrying families on their way to visiting security prisoners.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein instructed the Knesset Guard on Tuesday to provide Likud MK Oren Hazan with security after he received threats from Hamas.

On Monday, Hazan confronted Palestinian families on their way from Gaza to visit Palestinian security prisoners in Israel.

He boarded their bus at the Gaza border with video crews in tow, calling the prisoners "terrorists who belong in the ground."

"If you keep up at this rate, you won't see your sons and you won't see life. We'll kick you out of here. We'll wipe your ugly smiles off your faces," Hazan told the families. "You're scum."

Following the incident, the MK received threats from Hamas, among other things on social media.

After holding a situation assessment with the police, Edelstein decided to provide Hazan with security.

Hazan sought to meet Palestinian security prisoners' families and explain to them face-to-face the need for information on Israeli citizens and the remains of IDF soldiers being held by Hamas in Gaza.

"In this reality, we won't allow these scum bags to continue behaving that way," Hazan told them.

One Palestinian relative told Hazan, "You need to talk to Hamas and Ismail Haniyeh. This isn't our problem. We also want to see our children, and you deserve to see your children. We're with you, and you deserve to have your children freed. No more wars. I've been on the roads for six hours to see my son for half an hour."
