Gabbay: 'Elections in November 2018, I will be elected PM'

Zionist Union Chairman Gabbay says in interview he's certain elections will take place November 2018, and that he will be elected PM; 'There is no connection between what's going on in the Knesset recently and things that really bother people,' Gabbay adds.

Zionist Union Chairman Avi Gabbay said that he believed there will be elections this coming November and that he will be elected prime minister. Gabbay made the comments Saturday at a cultural event in Modi'in adding that the current government is occupied only with its own survival and not with the good of the people.

Gabbay also commented on the controversy surrounding the security provided for the prime minister's children. This week, Director of the Shin Bet Yoram Cohen revealed that he recommended the children not receive a permanent security detail. "In my case, I would heed the advice of the Shin Bet and in any case, I don’t think my kids want security," Gabbay said.

Gabbay also expressed opposition to the Supermarkets Bill—scheduled to be voted on this coming week in the Knesset. "I oppose religious coercion and maintain that each city should decide for itself according to the makeup of the population, whether and how many shops should be open on Shabbat," he declared.

The Zionist Union leader then went on to attack the government, saying, "In recent weeks, the coalition has been preoccupied with providing news headlines for its members instead of being immersed in the lives of Israel's citizens and the issues that truly bother them."

"I travel the country and hear what is bothering people and I can say with certainty that there is no connection between most of what is going on in Knesset sessions recently and the things that are really bothering people," the Zionist Union chief claimed.

During a similar cultural event in Be'er Sheva, former head of the investigation and intelligence unit of the police and current MK Yoav Segalovich (Yesh Atid) criticized the coalition in light of the investigation into the affairs of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"The difference between the current investigation and the past (investigation of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert—ed) is the silence, the absolute silence of the coalition members. In the past, there were those, even members of the party of that prime minister, who said: 'Enough!' Today's reality is of a state of dwarves," he said.

He added: "It is not the Likud itself which is under investigation but rather the prime minister. (But) nobody stands up to declare: 'Enough!' I do not expect Gilad Erdan, Yisrael Katz or Gideon Sa'ar to say 'Submit an indictment,' but to at least say that this behavior is problematic and damaging to the state."
