MK Eitan Cabel (Labor) was questioned under caution Thursday at the Lahav 443 fraud investigation unit as part of the ongoing probe known as Case 2000, involving conversations that took place between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Arnon Mozes, the publisher and owner of Yedioth Ahronoth Group.
Mozes also was also questioned under caution the same day.
“I was investigated today for short period as part of the ‘Bibi-Mozes affair,’ know as Case 2000,” Cabel wrote on Twitter, referring to the prime minister using his moniker.
“I answered everything I was asked and I trust the law authorities. As always, I acted legally and I recommend patience until the completion of the investigation,” he said.
According to a statement issued by the police after the questioning, Cabel was investigated for several hours.
“The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the state attorney with the authorization of the attorney general,” the statement read. “Beyond that, the nature of the matter prevents us from elaborating on more details of the ongoing investigation.”
Last November, Channel 2 News correspondent Amnon Abramovich reported that the aim of the investigation is to ascertain whether a financial quid pro quo arrangement was in place in 2009 between Mozes and Netanyahu.
In conversations reported between the two by Abramovich, Mozes allegedly told Netanyahu in one of their discussions, "We worked things out wonderfully in the 2009 elections. Have you forgotten?"
The two are suspected of discussing a deal that would aid Yedioth Ahronoth in the print market in return for a more favorable coverage of the prime minister in the paper.
Arnon Mozes is the publisher and owner of Yedioth Ahronoth Group, which includes Ynet.
