Home Front Command at Knesset hearing: Thousands of homes in north unprotected
Home Front Command presented data at a Knesset Finance Committee hearing according to which at a distance of up to nine kilometers from the northern border fence, more than 16,000 homes did not have an apartmental shelter—with the cost being NIS 100,000 per shelter.
Committee Chairman MK Moshe Gafni (UTJ) called on the Treasury to push through funding for an alert system, similar to one already in operation in the south, to give residents of communities near the border a 15 second forewarning before a rocket lands.
Gafni also appealed to the Treasury to provide funding for building shelters in the north at a cost of NIS 5.5 billion.
