UN Middle East envoy calls on Israel to rethink Kerem Shalom decision

The UN envoy to the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov, called on Israel on Tuesday to rethink its decision to shut down the Kerem Shalom border crossing in the Gaza Strip as a response to incendiary balloons and kites.

“I’m very concerned about the repercussions of this decision,” said Mladenov, who also called on “Hamas and other Palestinian factions in Gaza to do their part in preserving the calm.”

Kerem Shalom would remain open for the transfer of specially approved humanitarian goods.
