Chief submarine affair investigator to receive Netanyahu's graft cases

Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh appoints new chief investigator and makes several other staff changes; Police source: 'A statement was made here, and not necessarily a positive one.'

It is not yet clear if Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh will serve another term, but meanwhile he continues to shape the face of the police. Ynet has learned that discussions have been taken place regarding significant new appointments in the police.

The current Head of the National Fraud Investigations Unit, Brigadier General Koresh Barnor, who is the chief investigator in cases 1000 and 2000 against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will become the commander of the IDF's Military Colleges and National Defence College, which will give him a far wider remit.

Case 1000 concerns illicit gifts Netanyahu allegedly received from business moguls Arnon Milchan and James Packer, whereas Case 2000 concerns talks the premier had with Yedioth Ahronoth owner and publisher Arnon Mozes regarding the Israel Hayom daily.

A senior officer addressed the fact that Barnor would not be promoted, however, but would simply change roles. "If these appointments really do take place, then a statement was made here, and not necessarily a positive one."

He will be replaced by Yoav Telem, an associate of former police commissioner Yohanan Danino, and the investigator in charge of the submarine affair, also known as Case 3000.

In addition, Brig.-Gen. Eran Kamin, former deputy of the Head of the National Fraud Investigations Unit, whose rank was held back because of former Justice Minister Haim Ramon's case, will be transferred to the National Security College of the Israel Defense Forces.

Another officer who will receive a promotion is commander of the Central Police Unit, Major General Dudu Bueni, who is set to receive the sensitive position of the head of the Investigations Division.

Other appointments include the position of deputy commander of the Tel Aviv District, which is assigned to Brigadier General Haim Blumenfeld, and the position of commander of the Unit of International Crime Investigations, which is assigned to Major General Haim Nissim.

All appointments require the approval of Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan.
