Welcome to 2019! World starts ringing the New Year

Western Hemisphere kicks off celebrations with New Zealand and Australia waving goodbye to 2018; Israel to usher in 2019 just hour before the festivities reach major European capitals.

New Year celebrations got into full gear on Monday as countries all around the world started to say goodbye to 2018. Australia and New Zealand, along with the rest of the Western Hemisphere were the first to ring in 2019, with China, Philippines and other parts of Asia the next in line.

Russia was to kick off the festivities one hour before Israel, and at 1am Israel time, the New Year will reach all the major European capitals. North America will be the last to usher in 2019, with thousands of revelers expected to pack the New York's Times Square.
