Fairy tales come to life in Ashkelon sand sculpture festival

The southern beach city hosts international festival for the first time, starring leading artists and all time favorite mythical heroes

The Bar Kochba beach in Ashkelon became a festive sculpture gallery this week, when world-leading sand sculptors arrived in the southern city and started working on their pieces for the first ever Ashkelon International Sand Sculpture Festival.

Sculptures include Gulliver, Moana, Little Mermaid, the Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and several other classic mythical characters, and are made of hundreds of tons of sand.
