Yigal Amir transfers jails, now without video surveillance in cell
Late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's assassin transferred from his isolated cell in Ayalon Prison to separation wing in Rimonim Prison. From now on, there will be no more video surveillance in his cell and he will be able to talk with other prisoners
Late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's assassin, Yigal Amir, was transferred from Ayalon Prison in Ramle to a cell in the separation wing of the Rimonim Prison in the Sharon. From now on, there will be no surveillance cameras in his cell, visits will be held in the visitors' room and not in the cell, and he will have neighbors with whom he will be able to converse.

Israel Prison Service said, "The transfer was made out of internal considerations in the IPS."

Amir, who is serving a life sentence for assassinating Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, was jailed until now in Ayalon Prison. A special wing, Wing 15, was built for his imprisonment in which there was a single, relatively large cell, next to which was a yard that Amir used for his daily walks.

Family visits were held in his cell. There was also a public phone in his cell so that he could make phone calls by way of the wardens. A team of guards were positioned around his cell. In addition, surveillance cameras recorded his movements 24 hours a day.

Amir's conditions in Rimonim Prison will be somewhat different. Ze'ev Rosenstein was jailed in Rimonim Prison before he was extradited to the United States.

In the separation wing of the Rimonim Prison there are number of cells next to one another with one prisoner per cell. In each cell there is a shower, bathroom, bed, and a small, barred window. Amir's new cell is smaller than his cell in Ayalon Prison.

There will be a change in his visitation arrangements. In order to meet with visitors, Amir will be taken into a dedicated room and will no longer receive visitors in his cell.

'No improvement in conditions'

IPS Spokesperson Orit Stelser said that the decision to transfer Yigal Amir to Rimonim Prison stems from systemic considerations alone: "There is no improvement in Amir's imprisonment conditions. The decision to transfer him to the separation wing of Rimonim Prison was stems from the considerations and needs of the Israel Prison Service."

Recently, public attention has focused on Amir's conjugal visit with Larissa Trimbobler. Amir's mother, Geula, was amazed in her response to Ynet on the attention the affair was receiving. "Why does the entire people of Israel need to take part in Yigal and Larissa's conjugal visit?"

According to her, "A couple who is about to have a conjugal visit isn't interested in including all of Israel in their business. Why does the Israel Prison Service also go to such length to publish announcements? I hope the Israel Prison Service doesn't intend to tell exactly what went on there. That is the right to privacy and you don't need to get carried away."

In March, Larissa and Amir were caught on security tapes trying to secretly advance the process of artificial insemination that was deemed allowable for them.

After they received authorization to bring a child into the world by means of artificial insemination, wardens caught Larissa Trimbobler with a bag of Amir's sperm during a visit. The visit was immediately ended and Trimbobler was escorted out of the prison.
