1. You are only delaying the end
Yosef ,   Gush Etzion   (01.24.06)
Since the Arab birthrate is higher than the Jewish one, even if you go through with disengagement 2, all you are doing is delaying, not solving the demographic problem. Will you advocate withdrawal from the Gallilee or Negev in 20 years because their Arab populations threaten Israel's Jewish majority?
2. We all know it
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (01.24.06)
It's not only a demographic threat but also one of security: firstly, we make ourselves much more vulnerable to terror if we're in the midst of sources of terror, and secondly, we risk disaster if Syria or whoever decides to attack us again--we'd immediately have two fronts because the Palestinians would use the opportunity to have a go at us, too. A complete disengagement and return to as close to pre-1967 borders as possible is the only way forward. Arik, hero that he has always been, took that first step--he broke the ice this past summer/fall. The people of Israel will make their voice heard come March elections, and I believe they will overwhelmingly choose political options that understand the importance of a total disengagement AND will implement this. This is an exciting and positive time for Israel--we're finally doing what should've been done at least a decade ago. QADIMAH!!
3. Arab pullouts needed! Send the occupiers home!
Palestiniansareamyth ,   USA   (01.24.06)
4. #1:
Michael Steiner ,   EU   (01.24.06)
You have a point. That is why a disengagement is not enough. It has to go hand in hand with giving TRUE equality to Arab citizens of Israel. People who're educated, wealthy, healthy and happy usually forsake religion and do not have ten children. Yosef, we can do it, we can preserve a Jewish Israel for generations to come. But we have to be rational and open-minded about it. Forget ideology, including religion; we have to use logic, reason and long term thinking.
5. another way
sam schloss ,   beit shemesh, israel   (01.25.06)
Who says the far -right doesn't have an answer? Throw them out! The land is ours!
6. Where do you draw the line?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.25.06)
Why can Jews be expelled from areas where Arabs increasing, but Arabs can not be expelled from areas where Jews are increasing? Sooner or later the Negev and the Galilee will be threatened by an Arab majority, do we surrender those areas too? What will be left? Sheinkin St.
7. preserving a Jewish Israel for generations to come.
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.25.06)
Here is how NOT to do it: Being completely secular, not believing in G-D, not having children and living in the EU.
8. Re #4: Price of Disengagement
Steve ,   USA   (01.25.06)
B"H Michael, I am beginning to see why Arik is your hero, having "broken the ice" in his disengagement process. However, consider this. You say the Arabs are equal. I contend that they are not, and I think that you would consider this position racist. But it is not, based on birth-rate inside Israel's green line. Judiasm is not a democracy, but rather based on religious practice and faith. In the word, Jews do not make a majority. Jewish citizenship has never based itself on numbers alone, but rather on individual character and sacrifice to G-d. The Government of Israel, however, is a different entity that bases its action on majority rule and increasingly seeks to undermine Jewish religion in order to keep in place a secular character. To do so, it has "imported" Arabs of a different religion, hoping that they could place the state as equals among secular citizens. But the Arabs too base their citizenship not on democracy but on religion, so the net result of this action has been a stear towards fundamentalism, but towards a non-Jewish faith, instead of secular character. The secular experiment has failed. The fundamentalist Arabs (Hamas) only want Israel dead in its entirety, a very radical position indeed. I think that only National Union has the clarity to deal with the situation. From a Jewish perspective, citizenship is already established with the practice of faith in G-d, and this question is moot. G-d sorts out who is a Jew and who is not based on the relationship formed. Michael, giving away land does not solve the secular crisis, but enhances it. Security does not solve the secular crisis, but enhances it, because it allows Israel to turn a blind eye to the situation. The only solution that solves it is a turn towards the Jewish religion which has answers for all of these problems. The Arabs must not be held slave to the hellenistic Jewish political system of democracy. They need to have their citizenship in their Arab nation outside of Israel. That is what the National Union proposes in phases, starting with negotiating the PA Arabs Jordanian citizenship and collecting the PA's weapons to establish peace. As ties and economy warms with Jordan, then the Israeli Arabs can also obtain citizenship in a system fit for them instead of forcing the hellenistic religion on them or their Islamic religious statehood on the rest of the Jews in Israel, G-d forbid, through further Jewish death. Otherwise, Michael, the Israeli Arabs are slated to grow in population in Israel's green line, take over your secular hellenistic Israel with their votes, and send its Jewish population to die (if Eurabia has not been well established by then by Iran). So says Hamas who has gained enough legitimacy to run in elections with a platform of militarily defeating Israel in its cities (which some would call a declaration of war). What sort of fundamentalist do you want running Israel, Michael? The Arabs or the Jews. It cannot be both. A state of all of its citizens is flawed in its premise. Some one religion has to lead it. In the United States, that religion has consistently been Christianity at the Presidential level, within constitutional bounds. Michael, if you are an Israeli living in Europe, practice what you preach by living abroad, and vote National Union to save the only remaining Jewish Union.
9. Punch of fanatics
Jim Fenton   (01.25.06)
why dont you try to live with them in peace. otherwise you are not better than them.
10. Defeat
Irgun fighter   (01.25.06)
No more surrender to terror! The Arabs have to withdraw from Jewish land not the other way around.
11. The Fence is not enough
Joe Levy ,   USA   (01.25.06)
9 mile borders still exist it's basically 67 and oslo borders again. The borders could have been redrawn to include many more settlements and a defenseable border without the arab population . It is our land. Also how about having motre babys instead of having abortions right and left the more babys the more people we have.
12. TO # 1 Good Point
MARK ,   USA   (01.25.06)
The Galilee should go to the Arabs. It is mostly Arab. The demographic problem is Israeli Arabs. They will outnumber Jews. Instead of terror attacks they will just increase in population even faster. I think they can not be citizens of Israel only future palestine. A smaller Israel is fine with me as long as it is 100% Jewish and protected by an international peacekeeping force. Israel can give up parts of the Negev as long as its security is guarranteed somehow or someway. The Arabs have to recognize Israel's right to exist. They have not done that and will not do it until Israel is extremely small. They will keep pushing until the world puts intense pressure on them. The world is not at that point. They want Israel to be tiny. They make money selling military equipment. The Arabs have to agree on how small Israel can be. Israel has most of the land and they want at least 50/50 which is only fair. They want 100% but will be happy with 70/30 or 80/20 so I understand their desire to use all means including terror. It is not even50/50. Israel is being stubborn as well. Why should the Arabs get less then 50%? Is that fair? 1/2 = 50%
13. steiner
Yehu Ben Zohar ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.25.06)
The 67 borders you say? You have decided that going back to the 67 borders is the answer? I seem to remember that the Arabs were not content with the 67 borders, didn't they start a war over that? Insanity is described as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Where has any Arab stated that the 67 borders are enough? Hamas, al asqua etc are not even happy with the 47 borders, they are not happy with any Israel, not even a postage stamp size Israel. Go to MEMRI.com and see the translations of the Arabic press, the imams, the PA politicians in their own language, what do you see? Palestine, from the river to the sea. There is no room in the middle east for Jews, period. when are you and the other idiots in the left and center going to realize that the Arabs consider all Jews settlers and a stain on the "pure" ummah. They will lie, cheat, kill and tell you what you want to hear, all the while planning your death and the takeover of Israel. They have said this, thousands of times. You are endorsing suicide, you and Olmert, Beilin, and the other fools who think giving land to the Arabs will buy them off. When will you and the others like you finally say that since whats left of Israel is surrounded by 300 million Arabs in 22 countries, it is no longer feasible to stay in Israel and Jerusalem, that is just an extension of what Olmert and Sharon have given as an excuse for giving up land to the Arabs. We either stand together or we will die seperately.
14. Michael, do you advocate transfer of Arabs?
AK   (01.25.06)
That would surely solve a demographic problem. Otherwise, at some point there will be a war, and the demographic threat will be eliminated with the bombs. So far ,I believe, Israeli bombs are bigger.
15. EU is not a valid alternative to Israelis
AK   (01.25.06)
It doesn't even seem like a valid alternative to the Europeans anymore. Europe will be Muslim in 50 years, or so the prediction goes. It seems Muslim outbreed everybody, and especially Europeans. It will not take long until the House of Dior will start creating high couture burkhas. As a matter of fact, actress Kate Beckinsale was recently extolling the benefits of “non-religious” burkhas -- tongue in cheek, of cause. I hope.
16. TO STEINER , , SAM.. KYLE
GEORGE SAMI   (01.25.06)
CRSSAIDERS STAYED ABOUT 200 YEARS THEN THEY LEFT , YOU ALSO HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT SOONER OR LATER YOU HAVE TO LEAVE, AND YOU STEINER TALKING LOGIC , I AM WITH YOU WE HAVE TO FORGET IDEOLOGY INCLUDING AND FIRST OF ALL THE RELIGION , YOU SAM SCHLOSS , THROW WHOM OUT , THIS IS ARAB LAND YOU LOVE IT OR NOT , AND YOU ARE UNWELCOMED GUEST AND YOU AND ALL PEOPLES SIMILAR TO YOU HAVE TO LEAVE THIS LAND BY PEACE OR BY FORCE , I PREFER PEACE. KYLE , ALL THE LAND FOR ARABS AND YOUR RELIGION FOLLOWERS ESTABLISH THEIR STATE BY THE HELP OF GREAT BRITAIN AND THE MONEY THEY HAVE , THIS IS WHY YOU CAN NOT EXPEL THE ARABS , IT IS THEIR LAND..
17. jews in diaspora
Jeffrey ,   Florida, USA   (01.25.06)
I'm 20 years old, and making aliyah next year, as soon as i graduate from college. I'm sick and tired of all these american and other diasporic jews condemning secular Jews in Israel? I'm secular, and I'm moving to Israel, out of a love for Israel. Why do you condemn those living in Israel, while yourselves choose to live in galut? It makes me sick
18. George; IT'S ALL JEWISH LAND!
Palestiniansareamyth ,   USA   (01.25.06)
EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT JEWS LIVED IN ISRAEL THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO! THE ARAB OCCUPIERS LIKE YOURSELF NEED TO GO BACK TO ARABIA! THAT IS THE LAND OF YOUR ANCESTORS!
19. Flawed reasoning
Lady Justice ,   City of Peace   (01.25.06)
According to this reasoning, it is only a matter of a very short time before we will also have to "withdraw" from the Galil and the beduin population boom in the Negev will ensure that in years to come, that will also have to go. Once the north and the south and the east have been given over, those borders will also begin to feel the pressure. Seriously! What will you people propose doing when all the Jews of Israel are whittled down to an island called Tel Aviv? Unless your ultimate plan is to destroy the Jewish State (which wouldn't surprise me) the only real solution is to limit citizenship to Jews only.
20. JEWMYTH NO 18
GEORGE SAMI   (01.25.06)
MR . JEWMYTH NO 18 THERE WERE NEVER IN ALL HISTORY JEWISH LAND , BUT ALWAYS THERE WERE ARAB WORLD AND ARAB LAND , ….. JEWISH IS A RELIGION AND NOT A NATION YOU ARE FROM MANY NATIONS BELIEVING IN ONE RELIGION ,, BUT WE ARABS WITH MANY RELIGIONS BUT ONE NATION , SO LEAVE THE ARAB LAND , MUCH BETTER FOR YOU AND YOUR FUTURE FAMILY..
21. More pullouts needed to preserve Jewish country
Leah Amdur ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.25.06)
This has to be a left wing non-jew speaking. This is typical of how a university professor speaks. Total kafira and apikorsim. Firstly, there are 1000000 Jews in Russia who are beginning to be savagely persecuted, a large number of French Jews being attacked by arab France, there is a large aliya from America. There is an aliya from Britain. Things are changing in Australia. How can you rely only on the present situation. What insanity, what bribe are you taking from the arabs and the USA to say this nonsense
22. The Stupid Professor
Dudu ,   Kfar Sava   (01.25.06)
Soffer's been predicting arab majority in 15 years for the past 30-40 years. This guy's a moron. I suggest we listen to what he has to say and then do the EXACT OPPOSITE.
23. Soffer
Yael ,   Rishon   (01.25.06)
By the same logic, we should also vacate the Galill and Negev.
24. To Michael Steiner
Dudu ,   Kfar Sava   (01.25.06)
Logic, Reasoning, Long-term planning? If we beleived in that we would have set up our state in Saudi Arabia then we would have had the oil and they the oranges. No, we should stick to our Jewish idea of 2000 years
25. Soffer's garbage piece
Nir ,   Eilat   (01.25.06)
Soffer does not take into account that normal demographic rules do not apply to our nation. If they did, we would have disappeared many centuries ago.
26. Israeli Arabs' birthrates are declining
Daniel ,   Israel   (01.25.06)
The Israeli Arab Christians and the Israeli Druze population already have a birthrate comparable to mainstream Israelis. The birthrate among Israeli Arab Muslims have decreased and continues to decrease. Israel must continue to integrate Israeli Muslims into the modern Israeli society and increase their level of education which will bring their birthrates down to Israeli standards.
27. Reply to #20 George Sami
Daniel ,   Israel   (01.25.06)
Israel is the only country in the world which voluntarily withdraws from historical parts of its homeland in order to survive and to give the peace a chance. Israel never was and never will be an Arab country. The country the Romans occupied was called JUDEA and not Arabia. The term "Palestine" was firmly established by the Roman emperor Hadrian who wanted to obliterate the name Judea. The mythical "Arab Palestine" is as real as Disneyland although far less entertaining. In Israel the Arabs and other non-Jews are guests and the sooner you learn that the better. Learn some basic history instead of spitting worn-out Arab lies.
28. #4 You qualify for the Palestinian medal
Ann ,   USA   (01.25.06)
Ever thought of becoming a Palestinian resident? They love your kind in Ramallah.
29. Shut the loopholes first!
Roger ,   USA   (01.25.06)
As much as the Arabs complain about the Jews they prefer Israel to any other Arab state and the stupid Jews let them in. Over 300K Arabs have lately settled in Israel via the legal and illegal means. All loopholes much be closed and the number of Arabs settiling in the Jewish Israel should equal the number of Jews settling in the Arab states or practically none.
30. DANIEL NO 27
GEORGE SAMI   (01.25.06)
MR. DANIEL NO COUNTRY IN THIS WORLD WITHDRAW FROM FOOT OF IT IS LAND IF IT IS REALY IT IS LAND WHAT EVER THE COST , BUT FROM WHAT YOU ARE WRITING I SUPPOSE YOU READ TOO MUCH TO LINDA RIVERA , WHO BRING ALL THE LIES OF JEWS AND ZIONIST MEDIA TO THE READERS, STOP BELIEVE THE LIES AND YOU HAVE TO TAKE LESSON IN HISTORY , YOU LIVE OVER OUR LAND BUT I DO NOT THINK THAT YOU EVER VISITED THE PALESTINIANS REFUGEES CAMPS , GO AND VISIT IT AND LET US MEET AGAIN, THIS IS ARAB LAND YOU LIKE IT OR NOT , AND ONE DAY WHICH IS VERY NEAR YOU WILL LEAVE,, AND STOP TALKING HISTORY , OR THE RED INDIAN HAVE TO CLAIM NEW YORK AND ALL AMERICA TO BE UNDER THEIR RULE
