To begin with, I have served in the military and yes I have heard of landmines causing such casualties. The physical evidence at the scene supports this and is not consistent with that caused by an Israeli shell. Secondly, Hamas gunmen cleaned the scene immediately after the blast and prevented the collection of most of the shrapnel present. Even the casualties passed on to Israel had had such removed from their bodies beforehand. This did not prevent what remained being analysed to discover it's source - which was not Israeli. Thirdly the Palestinian side did not cooperate with any investigation and did not mount one of it's own. With the greatest respect, instead of querying the ethics of the IDF - which was prepared to participate in a joint enquiry with the Palestinians - I think it is the integrity of the integrity of the Palestinian security forces and Hamas that should be your prime concern.

The point to note is that if terror cells like this were not shooting tens of rockets per week at Israeli schoolchildren, Israel would not be hunting them down. If groups like this were not driving through civilian areas in unmarked trucks full of high explosives, civilians would not be getting killed in those areas. If civilians in the PA would learn to get the hell away from the terror cells instead of becoming willing human shields, this kind of thing would also not happen. I'm sad about the civilian deaths. I blame the terrorists first and foremost. They are not resisting anything in Gaza; they are waging an aggressive, terrorist campaign against school kids in Sderot. If they laid down arms, Gaza would become peaceful and prosperous and map out the way toward a better middle east.
