If you were more familiar with the nuances in all these public words, you would have known that the "gloves were off" in these condemnations. And just like all formal statements reflect the sentiments of the corresponding citizens, so do all these. There is no possibility for the SPA (Saudi Press Agency) to publish such strong, clear words if there were not many Saudis who feel the same way. Sadr, of course, believes the attack on the WTC was a good thing - and that his insensitive remarks were addressed to a like-minded audience. We know people like him celebrated the attack on 9-11 as a blow for Islam. We were all treated to the television images of Muslims dancing in the streets, passing out candy, and generally raising hoopla at the news of the attack. And then they wonder when we aren't sympathetic enough toward the plight of the Palestinians and Lebanese. And then they wonder why the U.S. sides with Israel against its arabic neighbors. And then Sadr wonders why Americans officials in Iraq consider him a troublemaker and wanna-be tin-horn dictator. We really should have more compassion toward them, but its just plain hard to do so when they act so hateful toward us. Maybe we should start a sensitivity crusade.

Friends: In the last hour, 3 philosophies have crossed my screen. First - Desperate defiance from a battle weary Israeli who is on the "ropes" and says "bring it on" Second - Desperate hate from a Muslim demonstration guided by a philosophy of - absolute violence "resolves" Third - Desperate love from Mother Teresa who struggled so hard to help us put aside our pettiness and climb out of our cesspool of selfishness. I am so moved through this gamut of roller coaster emotions to awfully real tears. I am not normally an activist, but desperate times call for grass roots activism. Maybe it is because I too am tired, maybe I'm scared by all of this, maybe I feel impotent to stop those seeking to destroy rational living, maybe we are all so desperate at the thought of the coming carnage, as this surely will lead to in the end, because all of these desperate feelings are rising to a crescendo. I think I am voicing what so many of us have felt in the post 9/11 world. Fortunately, my terminal emotion is that of hope. I feel that, as Mother Teresa put it, "the ocean would not be the same without our seemingly meaningless and inconsequential little drop". We, the ordinary people of this earth need to unite and help our loving God drive the satanistic driven hordes into the depths of Gehenna. How can we do this? Not by demonstrations, speeches or more fights. Not by petitions or voting, our leaders are part of the problem and we put them there. Merely become that useful drop in the ocean - live a better life - help others, start off with the Mother Teresa methods and then you can develop your own brand. Diminish our materialism - seek to give away at least the equivalent of a designer shoe, outfit or coffee - remove the desperation in someone else's life - sometimes it takes just 1 dollar to feed or clothe a family. Help them realise hope too. Teach them to fish = food for a lifetime. Rise up friends - its is high time there was action on our parts - or are we to coldly watch the TV from our couch. How can any hope be realized through you? To some of you it is to provide religious teaching, to some it is to provide that lonely person some company, to some it will be to share your wealth, to some it will be to educate others, to some it will take learning to forgive, .... whatever the "drop" is, it will help.... GO TO IT NOW.. don't waste any more time thinking about it. Your paradisical earth for now, is being able to live in love, working hard and being able to help others. Please start now by sharing. Everyone of you that I am writing to, is quite comfortable in life. Change your life immediately for the better... like that "butterfly in China flapping it's wings" - the change will come to the rest of the world - spread your own message of hope to others.. You too, should write to your friends - don't use chain mail. Be moved yourself - show you too, care, don't be shy, I know you would appreciate a happy community too. Don't worry about thinking how to do it, start by curbing the hate within us - focus on love. Stop listening to hate mongers, focus on our strengths and not on differences. Go to the person(s) closest to you and tell them you love them. Tell them now - say you are sorry for being a user and tell them you want something better from life for them and for you.
