Shana ,   james island, SC   (08.01.06)
I agree 30 ( angry american_
62. Americans don't support Israeli aggression
Vanzetti ,   Boston, U.S.   (08.02.06)
The former comment by "John" is nonsense: most of the Americans who are informed about what's going on (the Israeli kidnapping of 2 civilians, which escalated the situation) are opposed to the atrocities carried out by Israel. Kudos to the technical team! Too bad Depeche Mode isn't more moral.
63. #62

Depeche Mode Rocks biotch! Get some better taste in music Vanzeti
64. Vanzetti
J   (08.02.06)
I hate people like you who think its moral for a rock band to boycott a country caught up in a war. Whether or not you agree with the war, what does that have to do with all the fans who want to enjoy a great band? You are probably against the US occupation in Iraq, but are you going to stay bands should boycott America? get a clue btw, i'm against all violence , but seriously think about what you are saying.
65. A Depeche Mode Republican
Brad Durden ,   Orange County, CA   (08.02.06)
I appreciate Depeche Modes candor about their support of Israel. That did not have to say anything, they could have been silent on the issue or they could have taken the UN stand. This does not seem to be politically motivated at all. If their tech team is the issue you cannot blame the band. Unfortunately to many people can only see Red and Blue. If this were Ted Nugent then Dem's would be saying it was because he was an anti-Semite, which would not be the truth. Let's stop jumping to conclusions and focus on the positive aspect. It would have been easy for D-Mode to take the Anti-Israel UN Line.
66. #65
J   (08.02.06)
Stop using a great rock band to promote your political views. You people all need to chill out and enjoy the music for what it is .
67. Easy?
Dave ,   NYC   (08.02.06)
"It would have been easy for D-Mode to take the Anti-Israel UN Line. " Brad, Why would it be "easy" to admit that the Lebanese have a right to breathe in this world? If they had spoken out against the slaughter of Lebanese women, children and elderly, they'd be Dixie-Chicked in Bush's America.
68. #62
RC ,   USA   (08.02.06)
speak for yourself. I fully support Israel and am proud to say so!!! and am speaking for myself!
69. Israeli aggression
John ,   Goshen,NY   (08.02.06)
I don't know what Americans Vanzetti hangs around with but most of my friends agree with what Israel is doing. What would he or she suggest Israel do ?Sit down and negotiate with these gutless terrorist.I sometimes wish the US was as aggressive as Israel and to hell with what the rest of the appeasing world thinks.
70. I still don't understand
Joe ,   USA   (08.02.06)
I read the whole article and still have no clue as to why Depeche Mode is not coming to Israel. All those words and no information? Take a deep breath and just freaking say it!
71. # 69, to John
Dave ,   NYC   (08.02.06)
<"most of my friends agree with what Israel is doing"> Perhaps you need to get out of Goshen a little bit more, John. http://www.chabadorange.com Take a trip to the Big Bad City and meet some Palestinian folks along Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. And turn of that damned Fox News and read something about the history of Palestine. What should Israel do? Simple...free the ILLEGALLY detained women and 3600 children from its prisons. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/06/26/israel.soldier/index.html http://www.arabhra.org Israel attacked all of Gaza for the capture of one soldier and is slaughtering countless Lebanese for 2 soldiers. Ever hear the expression "Let my people go"?
72. Concert
James ,   Allen, USa   (08.02.06)
Shame!!!!!!!!! When will individuals stand up for right or wrong?
73. Vanzetti didn't ask me
Al ,   West Haven, CT   (08.02.06)
How exactly do you know what "most Americans who are informed" think? I'm informed, and I disagree with you. Israel didn't carry out atrocities in this current warfare; Palestinian terrorists kidnapped a soldier, and then Hezbollah kidnapped 2 more in a cross-border raid. The appropriate response to that behavior -- and the behavior of all these Sharia-seeking Muslims -- is to answer their call for jihad and annihilate them.
74. Cough cough cough
Bob ,   US   (08.02.06)
bull****.... technical team, my arse. Easy way to keep the group's "image" strong, and yet still avoid going to Israel.
75. #71, to Dave.
Bob ,   US   (08.02.06)
It isn't just Goshen. And it isn't just John. Where's your outrage at Hezbollah, Dave? And why haven't they released the two soldiers? And why are they setting up their camps in civilian areas? And why haven't the Lebanese kicked them out? Hezbollah, like all Islamic terrorists, are gangsters. And they've held the Lebanese people captive for some time. Civil war ring a bell? Unfortunately, Hezbollah is attacking Israel from their home country. I feel for them, I really do. But Israel must destroy the terrorists. The terrorists have used their host land's citizens as human shields. Your anger at "John" and his ilk, and "Fox News" is really quite unjustified. Perhaps you ought to turn off CNN and try to get more news than just the opinions you want to hear.
76. No atrocities?
Dave ,   NYC   (08.02.06)
<<"I'm informed... Israel didn't carry out atrocities in this current warfare;">> Now, THAT'S a self-contradicting statement!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld6cOJqyPqY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUgMQiKhL84 And let's not forget those 3600 Palestinian kids kidnapped by the "brave" IDF! (cf. #71). You and John need to get out of your mothers' kitchens and start your real education! Olmert must be brought before the Hague!
77. Tell me. Are these not atrocities?
Dave ,   NYC   (08.02.06)

78. Dave, you miss the point
Michael U ,   SF,CA   (08.02.06)
Dave, you forget to mention that Homos was launching rockets from Gaza and Hellbollah was firing rockets from Lebanon before the kidnappings. The kidnappings were the straw which broken the camels back. Israel has nobody to talk to to stop this from happening as the Lebanese government is limp and Hamas is dedicated to the destruction of Israel. If the Gazans were smart they would have established a peaceful government instead of immediately launching attacks against Israel. But we all know who is behind this stuff, Iran and the Islamic revolution... So stop your bellyaching and be honest for once... We can smell your lies from here...
79. I knew this would happen! :-(
Jerusalem,Israel   (08.02.06)
80. Nonsense.
Dave ,   NYC   (08.02.06)
Shin Bet has derailed any attempts at peace: http://nafeez.blogspot.com/2006/07/shin-bet-vetoed-secret-israeli.html And as for COMMENCING hostilities, Israel has been planning this disaster long ago: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/07/21/MNG2QK396D1.DTL&hw=kalman&sn=001&sc=1000 And now, because of Olmert's crimes, Hezbollah is GAINING support in Lebanon, even among Christians. The US media is cowed into silence about these crimes, even moreso than the Israeli media. You've a computer and with it comes the responsibility to learn! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7828123714384920696&q=peace%2Bpropaganda
81. #78: forget to mention Homos?
Marc B. ,   new york   (08.02.06)
Hmm. Freudian slip? Lebanese government is limp, true. I mean, what do you want from *democratically elected christian* president in arab country, huh? Why not help Lebanese people understand that strong islamist government and couple of own nukes could be good for them, right? As it ain't Iran that's getting bombed, in case you've missed it.
82. So???
Lauren ,   Israel   (08.02.06)
Who cares that a "has-been" band isn't coming to Israel? I will not critisize them for not wanting to be here now, because after all, Israel and the whole area is a war zone, and it's not like they are making a huge statement about the Middle East situation - they are just scared shittless!!! Can't blame them, they are just a few regular Brit guys, and I do not expect them to show any solidarity with Israel. Still, on the brighter side, I hear that everyone who bought tickets is getting a refund, and don't forget, there are still plenty of good bands around in Israel; Israeli bands that play great music and don't charge an arm and a leg to see them. Go to Mike's Place in Jtown or Tel Aviv, you can enjoy all the music you want, no cover charge either, and nice people too, who probably will not mention the war because the politics thank god are left behind there. Now is the time to support our local bands, not pay a fortune for some shmucks from England.

85. Did you read your own thread?
Jim ,   Rochester, USA   (08.02.06)
From www.sfgate.com "In his talks, the officer described a three-week campaign: The first week concentrated on destroying Hezbollah's heavier long-range missiles, bombing its command-and-control centers, and disrupting transportation and communication arteries. In the second week, the focus shifted to attacks on individual sites of rocket launchers or weapons stores. In the third week, ground forces in large numbers would be introduced, but only in order to knock out targets discovered during reconnaissance missions as the campaign unfolded. There was no plan, according to this scenario, to reoccupy southern Lebanon on a long-term basis. " At the last part of his Presidency, William Jefferson Clinton attempted to get Mr. Arafat to sign a peace agreement. Mr. Arafat refused. The president would have looked like a genius had he signed. The response is that Mr. Arafat would have been killed had he signed - Exactly! The Isreali's pulled back from a buffer zone with great concern - so would any rational nation. The Arabs had a chance for peace.
86. Depeche Mode/Israel
Chris ,   London, UK   (08.02.06)
Any band playing in Israel at the moment (or until the end of the occupation) should be viewed in the same way as bands who played South Africa in the 80s. If Depeche Mode did pull out for ethical reasons good for them - but they should speak up!
87. #32 - Turn on your brain!
Shawn ,   Washington, DC - USA   (08.03.06)
Depeche Mode is a british band... Not all bands are from the US. And since they make music that influences people all over the world, they should feel free to play wherever they are welcomed!
88. Ummmm who cares?
hope ,   sierra vista, usa   (08.04.06)
Depeche is HUGE in Israel and I think they sold out almost every concert they performed during this last tour in the US and the world. They have a big following still...young and old. Even though they sell out venues and have a big following they are still one of the most underrated bands.
89. Anti-Semites!?!! Oh Please!!!....
Rachel Corrie ,   USA   (08.16.06)
Contrary to most reports, DM probably cancelled because they feared the Israeli side and NOT Hizbollah missiles. Could you imagine them performing "People are People"!?!! IN ISRAEL!?!! The following events would probably follow: 1. The Israeli Knesset would immediately label them as terrorists. 2. An IDF sniper would shoot Martin Gore between the eyes (they would pick him because he's the smallest member of the band... duh). 3. A "seperation barrier" would be built between the stage and the fans. 4. A bulldozer would be brought in to demolish the stage while the band members are still on it. 5. Britain would be bombed for its support of terrorism (DM is a brit band after all). 6. The U.S. would veto any resolution to stop the bombing. 7. The Brits fight back. 8. The Israelis finally stop.
