Barbara Mautner ,   Delray Beach, USA   (12.31.06)
Correction, at least three people are rubbing their hands with glee....include me.
62. Islam and Neo-conservatives
Ruth Lopez ,   Orlando, FL   (12.31.06)
I disagree with you that the neo-conservatives hate Islam. I think it's worse than that. Islam means nothing to them. They are equally dismissive of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, democracy, and the well-being of their fellow humans. Their God is power. The wealth and priveledge that power brings are the blessings of their God and they will do anything - to anyone - to keep and increase their hold on power. You and I are subhuman to them. The lives of Iraqis, Iranians, Americans, all mean nothing except as far as we can be used to further their goals. They are that venal, that evil, that self-serving. Religion has nothing to do with it. More's the pity.
63. Tibi hates the Jews/Israel but loves the benefits Jews give
Roger ,   USA   (12.31.06)
64. Palestinians--parteners with the murderer
bob ,   potomac md   (12.31.06)
When Saddam gassed thousands of Kurds, the Palestinians remained silent--when he destoryed the Shiites in the south of the country and the habitations of the marsh dellwers--the Palestinians remained silent--when Saddam ejected Kurds from norther areas and moved in Sunni "settlers" --the Palestinians remained silent--when Saddam used Palestinian death squads in his murerous campaigns (survivors noticed the Palestinian dialicect spoken by the murderers) the Palestinians remained silent--so, Mr. Tibi--no one takes seriously anything y9u say--you have o credibility whatsoever-0-everything you say is a lie-0-including the words "and" and "the."
65. USA, Israel, Iraq, Mid-East
Anthony ,   USA   (12.31.06)
When there is war, murder and mayhem, all the parties involved are making wrong decisions. The act speaks for itself.
66. Tibi is only Israeli on paper! He is an adversary
Lizz ,   USA   (12.31.06)
67. Saddam
Clark Minton ,   USA   (12.31.06)
I see you have an opinion. I think I know what makes your hands rubbing with glee. If you weren't so translucent I would not be so obscure.
68. immorality

70. Red the Bible
Jul   (12.31.06)
Saddam's execution is just an example of the fate awaiting those that mess with the people of Israel. Read the Bible.
71. hybris
Will ,   New York, US   (12.31.06)
Bush & Cheney are assholes. So is Ahmadinejad, but at least he doesn't share the same kind of power & is not well respected in Iran. Just because the democrats won the midterm elections, paople suddenly think Bush is silenced (?!) No he is still doing the same shit & will continue to do so until he is no longer president, when his successor can reap the blame the Bush administration deserves for having destroyed the financial viability of the US & catalyzed international & environmental havoc.
72. To #3 Joan from Spain
Arie ,   Afula   (12.31.06)
The same nation noted for the Inquisition and who now have in power a PM who openly stateshis glorification of hitler. Of course you would see the execution of a mass murderer as "immoral"
73. Muslims easily offended!!!
John ,   Washington DC   (12.31.06)
You are offended by pictures of Muhammad, offended by a dictator being hung on Eid, offended by remarks on Koran, etc. If you want respect, you should earn it by showing respect for others. Dont blow up Bamiyan Buddas in Afghanistan, dont bring down WTC in New York, dont blow up Hindu Temples in India, dont blow up Churches in Middle East. Be tolerant of others, and let others live in peace. Then you can live in peace too.
74. Execution of Sadam
James H. Penland ,   yermo, usa   (12.31.06)
I personally do not like the death penalty. My thought however is, why do you cry for Sadam and blame the west when he squandered the wealth of Iraq and had a very minority government of the few, killed many by murder, and antagonized the rest of the world as much as possible. Yes, he was strong, but, not in a good way. I too think there are 3 Iraqs now. Perhaps that is a good thing if they can quit murdering each other. Iraq is a good example of having religious factions after one another rather than working together for the common good of all the people. Don't you think it would be good if the people practiced their religion in the Mosque and left it behind when they go to work for the people? Use all the treasure of the country to improve housing, food, utilities, and other infastructure that makes life better for all the people!! If the different factions of religion create hate, then how can it be a good religious practice? God does not look whether we are Christian, Muslim, Jew, or other. If we believe then he doesn't mind Sunni, Shiete, of Kurd ect ect. I hope one day anyone can visit Iraq and enjoy the scenery and culture of the country. Then, the country will be truely blessed. Hope!!!
75. to #1
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.31.06)
You are right. And there are plenty of others who should sit in prison and not the knesset.
76. I don't even have to read the artice to know what it says
Sarit   (12.31.06)
Let me guess: Arabs are innocent , perfect, even Saddam was an OK guy. THe West, headed by the United States is the absolute worst and the cause of all the trouble in the world. Oh and the US is anti-Arab. Am I close?
77. HOW DID THEY ALLOW HECKLER'S AT SADDAM'S HANGING??
Jake   (12.31.06)
Since when is hanging a public spectacle for hecklers, other than a KKK lynching? Welcome to the new Iraq! Mission accomplished!
78. Les, so Terry doesn't have the right to an opinion?
Jake   (12.31.06)
Looks like the only democracy you support in Israel is the one that furthers pro-Arab, anti-Jewish causes.
79. Bush is a fool & Saddam is a Martyr
lydia ,   Brisbane, Australia   (01.01.07)
Bush’s did his 'Pontius Pilate' bit in delivering Saddam, a Sunni, to his enemies so that the Shiite will take the blame for the actual lynching, an illegal act in an illegal war.. Saddam’s death on such a holy day will only cement his place in Arab history as a Martyr, after all had he not stood up to Bush but continued to play ball he would still be in power, like numerous other despots who enjoy the protection of the US; and Bush et al, for their duplicity, will wish for the devil they knew i.e.(Saddam) to the devil they don’t (the Iranians).
80.  Bush, Blair, Howard et al
lydia ,   Brisbane, Australia   (01.01.07)
are all nasty horrible little men whose are complicit in the deaths of some 600,000 of Iraqis and 3000 Americans. Saddam has paid with his life. Let's hope we can dispatch the rest of them to le Hague culminating in a hanging for them all.
81. islam will previal

82. Questions to MK Tibi?!
Abdullah ,   Kuwait City, Kuwait   (01.01.07)
Yes I agree with you that any death sentence is immoral because I am against the death penalty! But I have some questions for you and I hope that you'll be able to answer them? 1) Do you think that Saddam Hussein was a moral person? 2) Is his killing of his own fellow citizens moral? 3) Is his wars with his neighboring countries moral? 4) Was his invasion and occupation of Kuwait moral? 5) Was his bombing of Israel moral? 6) Was his killings of his rivals moral? 7) Was his killings of his in-laws moral? I honestly did think that best punishment for a human being is to keep him in a cage for the rest of his natural born life, executing him IMO like that gives him peace! Cheers.
83. Saddam Execution Immoral
Mustafa ,   Duisburg & Germany   (01.01.07)
I could not agree more. Me and my wife could not agree more. I am sure most western muslims think the same, who understand the world politics orchestrated by the US.
84. Lydia, Pontius Pilate bit????
Jake   (01.01.07)
For your information, Pilate did not deliver Jesus to anyone. Jesus ended up in his custody, and he gave the final order for Jesus' execution and symbolically 'washed his hands' of responsibility for the crucifiction, which was done by Roman soldiers.
85. What about the executions by the PA of collaborators ?
Yehuda ,   USA   (01.01.07)
I agree that the death penalty is immoral and ineffective in this case. But what about the routine executions carried out by the PA of Palestinian collaborators - are those moral to you?
86. Saddam's execution
John S. Hancock ,   Concord, NH USA   (01.01.07)
Saddam was a brutal mass murderer who had innumerable Shia, Kurds and even Sunnis killed. He and his regime was a legacy of Imperial rule first by the Turks then British. Saddam was always in uniform and looked like a British officer. I believe, strongly, in Arab Nationalism but that doesn't mean emulating brutal colonialism and becoming a military dictatorship. Saddam squandered Iraq's wealth and waged a terrible war against Iran and his own people. Saddam was no hero though he claimed to be for the Palestinians. I believe in the liberation of Gaza and the West Bank, the right of return for Palestinians to their homes in Israel itself. What constructive steps did Saddam take for the Palestinians? How many of the billions he wasted on armaments could have benefitted Palestinians? However, despite all this Saddam did not deserve to be humiliated at the time of his execution. I note that this was done by apparent supporters of Moqtada al-Sadr whose presence at the execution I'm sure the Americans were embarrassed by but this shows the extent to which Sadr's supporters have infiltrated the government. Sadr comes from a nobel family though he himself is unstable, thugish and not a learned man. He's another Saddam in the making. Saddam, at his execution, taunted his tormentors back and did himself proud in that respect. I feel no joy in his death because he couldn't experience the pain he caused for so many of his countrymen. There needs to be peace between Shia, Kurds and Sunnis or all will suffer unspeakably in the coming years. The average American soldier wants to leave Iraq a better place than they found it by building schools and hospitals but like any occupation it naturally alienates the local population. Can we leave without even more of a bloodbath taking place? Peace to you all and your families for the coming year and may justice and freedom come to Palestine and its people.
87. WHATEVER IT IS...IT'S DONE !! OVER !!!
RCA ,   USA   (01.01.07)
88. Not correct....
Rami ,   Nazareth, Israel   (01.01.07)
The people who executed Saddam are the Sheits and Kurds of Iraq. This has nothig to do with the Americans. Moqtada Sadder was one of the fist to cheer his execution. If Sadder is American then Tibi is a Jew.
89. Lynching
boxley ,   USA   (01.01.07)
A state execution is for the purpose of Justice. A solumn event showing that the rule of law and state ensures that evil is punished. From the crowd, starting with hooded executioners to the hecklers, this was an ordinary lynching. Not a legal act of any kind but an act of revenge. He deserved to die, justice requires dignity to show that the act was dispassionate. This was not done, this act is no different from an Al Quida throat slitting.
90. for once I have to agree with MK Tibi
Better the devil ,   you know...!!   (01.01.07)
No real benefit was made from hanging Saddam Hussein. the atrocities he committed were done under the West's nose and no one gave a damn, all of a sudden he became the scapegoat for everything in evil because he was easily accessible. I wonder if there will come a time in the near future when we will regret his death and consider the possibility that he was the lesser of 2 evils...g-d knows what will replace him and how Iraq will look once the Shite majority takes over..I think we have just seen Round 1 ..the game has not yet ended..who will be the winner/the loser only time will tell?
