31. # 26 Who is blinded, you or me ?
Sagi ,   Israel   (09.30.07)
I only stated facts. I agree with you as to who is giving away land and I do not like it just as much as you, but it is totally irrelevant to what I said. Once more I must state that I hate no one, including the Haredim, I just do not like their attitude to the State which I love and they, in the main, do not even recognize. They are not prepared to give but only to take. This is a fact and in no way can it be construed as hatred. Try answering me with a coherent argument instead of uttering nonsense.
32. #3 Sagi - Two important points
Michelle ,   Vancouver   (09.30.07)
1) The only reason that there were Jews to build Israel is that in spite of being surrounded by so much hatred and violence, generations kept their religious beliefs in the Torah. No Torah, no Jews. The current generation of seculars in Israel will be completely de-Judeized or converted to Christianity or Islam in one or two generations. (Yes, Islam. There are many secular Jewish women marrying Arabs already.) 2) What you call "freedom of speeech" is hate speech, nothing less. The kind of speech used when referring to the Haredi and the "settlers" would never be allowed in most Western democracies. That kind of speech is not even allowed when referring to the Arabs. I've read very hateful talkback language on Haaretz and even ocassionally on Ynet with readers calling the Haredi "parasites" and worse. Der Sturmer would have been proud. I am from a secular background, but I have come to value Judaism and understand the need to protect it. But even out of pure decency, nobody should condone or justify or explain away the hatred of the religious that exists among secular "Jews" in Israel.
33. When these events occur in Israel ......?
David P. ,   Central Coast, USA   (09.30.07)
34. Hevron cemetery was also vandalized
Michelle ,   Vancouver   (09.30.07)
The Menuchah Rachel Beit Midrash in the Chabad section of the cemetery was broken into and damaged. Gravestones were desecrated, mezuzahs ripped out of their posts and other holy articles destroyed. Equipment and furniture were also stolen from the site. Hevron police have launched an investigation into the incident. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/123798 I suppose the usual apologists will say that the Jews of Hevron brought all this on themselves. Didn't they say that in the 40s about the European Jews too? Jews are always blamed when they are the targets of hatred.
35. to Adam, #4
Vitaliy ,   Brooklyn, NY   (09.30.07)
It's nice to know that you can express yourself well. However, your expressed opinion is quite vile. Don't forget that most of Russian immigrants to Israel do not try to weasel out of the army service. Had Israel had normal neighbors, it wouldn't amount to much. But seeing how Israel is beset on all sides by enemies, who will be in the army if these Russian Jews didn't show up? Is it going to be the religious? Good luck!
36. to Adam, #19
Vitaliy ,   Brooklyn, USA   (09.30.07)
Jews from Russia, who come to Israel NOW, go to Israel, because they are UNABLE to go to US or Germany. So, don't talk of Israel's "soft touch." Israel was a priority for the many who wanted to move there, however, since the 80's most Jews wanted to go somewhere else. My family waited for a permission to move to the US, though we already had permission to move to Israel. Not many want to be living among a bunch of free-loading religious nuts with the prospect of a war looming every day, with a government that doesn't protect its citizens in Sderot.
37. This is what happens..
Simon ,   Malha   (09.30.07)
when the Israeli government give unfair benefits to the religious and the religious sponge off the government like there is no tomorrow!
38. Here's an interesting question...
Thomas ,   Cleveland, USA   (09.30.07)
Have these incidents increased since the article about the Russian Neo-Nazi arrests came out or have they been happening all along and Ynet JUST NOW started giving a crap and printing articles about them for ratings? Everyone knows bad news sells. Thats why I'm addicted to reading news on this site while at the same time absolutely LOATHING Ynet for their defeatist, self-hating left-wing crap!
39. #27 Hartley - What are you saying???
Michelle ,   Vancouver   (09.30.07)
Jews should not stoop to such behavior. Jews are the majority. It's - or should be - a Jewish country. These neo-Nazis should not have a chance to perpetrate these crimes. The problem is that the investigation should extend to the police. Why haven't they been able to find these youngsters? Just the other day they or the IDF were able to find Yesha leaders who were planning to set up new outposts this weekend. They found them, they arrested them, and they confiscated hats and t-shirts. The police and IDF are very efficient when it's a matter of harassing Jews who want to build new communities, but they seem oh, so clueless, when it's a matter of finding these guys who are already tatooed, who already dress and act as neo-Nazis.... So that's the problem: Lack of motivation to find the perpetrators. They could have infiltrated these groups years ago... But chose not to. One wonders what kind of influences are there in Israel that have allowed these groups to exist and proliferate.
40. to Yitz, #28
Vitaliy ,   Brooklyn, NY   (09.30.07)
In that case, whatever rabbi Ovadyah does, he should be censured next time by the justice system too, when he makes another one of his hateful comments. Sounds good to me.
41. to Michelle, #32
Vitaliy ,   Brooklyn, US   (09.30.07)
First, stop operating under your own/Canadian definition of hate speech. Israel, having its own system of courts and law, can decide for itself how to define hate speech. Whenever, you regulate hate speech, you're regulating speech anyhow. And in Israel with its many groups of zealots of various kinds it's not a good idea. That's what I can tell you after observing Israeli news for 10 years in a row, on an almost daily basis.
42. What horror...
Isragirl   (09.30.07)
As a non-believing Israeli of Russian origin, I know that there would be no sustainable Judaism without the orthodox, and there would be no sustainable claim for Israel without Judaism, even after you count Holocaust in. No matter what the daily conflict is between religious and secular Israelis, we are one. I also know what vile anti-semitism prevails in Russia - I'm scarred by it until this day. And how common is vandalism in Russia - just look at the pictures of their buildings outside of central areas. This is a salad made of Russian vandalism and anti-semitism combined, the whole Nazi theme is just a new dressing for it. More than 10 years ago, when Israel became suddenly flooded by Russian immigrants of Slavic nature, my father said that this would happen, that they will turn against us and there will be Nazis in Israel. We all dismissed him as paranoid and racist. Unfortunately, he was right.
43. Adam # 19 - all true
Isragirl   (09.30.07)
I agree with you on all accounts. As a Russian Jew who left Russia MAINLY because of the daily, persistent, relentless anti-semitism, I feel violated and betrayed again to see Russian thugs in Israel. I don't think they have easy lives here, but obviously it was better than being in Russia. They wanted us out, I heard "Go back to Israel" ever since I was 6 years old, before I could understand what it meant. Why are they now following us - to taunt us some more? In Russia I was a defenseless creature, my best tool of protection was ignoring them and staying out of their way. In Israel I learned to defend myself, to speak up for myself, and most importantly - I learned that I don't deserve to be treated like that, I don't deserve to live my life in fear. Never Again for me means the world, it's how I raise my children - fear free. Anti-semitism free. Our police really needs to step it up. No rehabilitation for these people. And no free tickets back to Russia. Let them stay in jail until they can come up with the money for a ticket. Isolate them from the human society.
44. Adam & Vitaly - both have valid points
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (09.30.07)
Being here in Israel, however, I must point out to you Vitaly that there is more than one way to be a weasel. Falsifying documents such as medical and driver's licenses and trying to steamroll an entire country's basic culture is incredibly corrosive. Further, Israel is not isolated in receiving disdain from the FSU group - the US receives plenty, too, so clearly blame cannot simply be projected outward, rather one should consider the source.
45. To #39
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (09.30.07)
The point I tried to make is this: Sometimes, when people, regardless of age, act like stupid, vicious, irresponsible, disgusting juveniles, they should be treated as such.
46. Not Immigrant
Dima   (09.30.07)
Israeli police have arrested a suspect.. He is not an immigrant..
47. #1, Excellent! Right on!
Richard ,   New York, USA   (09.30.07)
If secular Zionists were keeping Torah, there would be no neo-Nazis. Love conquers all.
48. #47: Without secular Zionists, there would be no Israel
(09.30.07)
A simple history review will clear that up for you. Have fun.
49. Not immigrant - a copycat?
Isragirl   (09.30.07)
and where did he get the idea? from space? rats breed really fast...
50. #38 - Thomas - Read pogrom.org.il
Michelle ,   Vancouver   (09.30.07)
It's a website that helps victims of anti-Semitism in Israel. It has kept a long record of incidents. As you will see, these things have been going on for years. If anything, there has not been enough media coverage or police interest in capturing the guilty. Since the targets were for the most part the hated Haredi, not much was made of it. And there may also be the issue that some people of influence preferred to keep these things quiet.
51. #48, Wrong. There would have been no secular Israel -
Richard ,   New York, USA   (09.30.07)
only a Nation of Priests under Hashem. Eretz Israel is not a nation like all other nations. It is suppose to be for the Righteous, not secular Zionists.
52. #35
Adam ,   Ramat Gan   (09.30.07)
You are absolutely right, I am not desputing those who would put on the IDF uniform in defence of Israel, I dont know why you would think I would disagree. I am certainly not religious and I am not happy with the ultra religious's lack of contribution with the lack of a uniform and paying taxes etc. However, when a Russian boy puts on an IDF uniform but has a swastica underneath I DO have a problem. Also, a lot of soldiers had a problem a few years ago with this when this actually happened at an Israeli barracks. A Russian immigrant from the Ukraine if I remeber correctly whose father was 100% Jewish but who goen around with neoNazi gangs back in Russia. Its not exactly good for morale. In addition to this, its also been reported than some of these neo Nazi, Russian IDF got together to beat up some new French IDF soldiers who had just emigrated to Israel... we could do without that. As the old Arab saying goes...it is better to have 1000 enemies outside than 1 enemy inside...they had that about right I think!
53. #43
Adam ,   Ramat Gan   (09.30.07)
This is what Israel is all about - it is a haven for the persecuted Jews in the world. Welcome home and Chag Sameach.
54. #36
Adam ,   Ramat Gan   (09.30.07)
This was my point; the fact that Russian 'Jews' can get into Israel but not get into the relatively safer existence with more opportunities in the USA or Germany or any other country in Western Europe is why they come here, unless you are very, very lucky. You prove my point, you were accepted to come to Israel with basically no questions asked; coming from the UK I had to produce my parents ketuba/my full birth certificate etc etc etc your family probably had to write 'oppressed Jew' and you got in and thats fine if its true. When you carry the Nazi hate with you then its disgusting. You got lucky with the US VISA application and good luck to you. I am not jealous of you but you got what you wanted and the US is an amazing country and I am sure you will be a success there. My point is that Russia is a cesspit of anti-Semitism and I wouldnt live their for an amount of money. Putin has a veiled old style communist anti-Semitic way about him which I dont trust - it doesnt help if he is your leader and you are a Jew. Unfortunately, the real Jews are having the fake Jews come in on their coat tails... Whilst I am not a fan of the ultra Orthodox and their lack of contribution to secular life in Israel and making the country work, they and any other minority group; blacks, gays, homeless, Arabs etc do not deserve to fear any reprisals by Nazis in a Jewish state or any other state for that matter. These people are not the enemy or terrorists, they are just slightly different.
55. #22, You're wrong!
Richard ,   New York, USA   (09.30.07)
Anti-Semitism exist because secular Jews are not keeping Mitzvot. That's it!
56. Adam
Vitaliy ,   Brooklyn, US   (09.30.07)
No, we do not share a point. Most Jews from the FSU preferred to come to US or Germany. Russia is no more a "cess-pit" of anti-Semitism than any other country on earth. That is a fact. In Russia, all non-Russians are discriminated. The reason, we had permission to come to Israel, was because we had relatives there already. We didn't just contact Jewish Agency for Israel, our relatives filled out all the documents. Anyway, don't conjure up some false images about the immigration process. These Russian immigrants also have to go through a ton of red tape. They just like you have to come up with proof of being Jewish - old documents, pictures, witnesses. (It's frequently not easier than getting your parents' ketubah). The point is that sometimes they are fake for some of the immigrants. The fact is that if England and UK go through an economic crisis and people are desperate to emigrate, they will similarly falsify their documents in England (it's just that there aren't too many people who want to leave the comfort of England.)
57. Adam #52
Vitaliy ,   Brooklyn, US   (09.30.07)
First of all, the guy caught vandalizing is a native born ""true" sabra. Second, this is the part that you know. Was there a reason they beat him up? Have you asked anyone? Have you stood up for the French Mizrachi guy? How do you know he went around with Nazi gangs? He said that to you probably, because you were seen as a week Englishman, I suspect.
58. #1 David: YNET lets me talk about God and the Bible.
Rivkah   (09.30.07)
59. # 51 Richard
Sagi ,   Israel   (09.30.07)
All the secular Zionists should leave Israel because they are, according to you, not worthy of living in the land which should only be inhabited by "the righteous", whatever that means. So all the "righteous" can then come to Israel from New York, London and Amsterdam and presumably they will all become soldiers and daredevil generals and fight those who would destroy us. Do you by any chance know what happened to the "righteous" in Hebron in 1929. I shall tell you, they were massacred with knives and axes and bludgeons, the old, the feeble and the young. Do you know why this happened, I shall tell you, it happened because there was no army of secular Zionists to defend the "righteous". Come down from cloud cuckoo land and get in touch with reality because the "righteous" will be the first to go when the knives come out again, and make no mistake about it, they are being sharpened and honed every week that passes.
60. Neo-nazis
Chana ,   Yesha   (09.30.07)
Nothing in the article here said if they were Russian, or not. Let's wait and see.
