My mom is yemenite and grew up in Israel in a yemenite village. I remember how she told me when she was a child that she would go to this ashkenazi village and thte was they Yemenite looking girl. My mom asked her how she looked like that when her parents where white. That is just one of thousands of incidents. They cold heartedly tore apart thousands of families. Another lady I knew was a nurse at a hospital and she saved a child from being stolen. They said that he was dead, but they lied. To this day there are stories of people running into their brothers/sisters and realizing they never died. Really tragic n sick!!!!

It's funny how so many people here complain about the racism of the "secular Ashkenazi elite", while I, a secular guy with a religious girlfriend and therefore in touch with plenty of (mostly Mizrachi) religious people, hear them complain only about discrimination suffered at the hands of other religious people. They are always quick to point out it's never the seculars who discriminate against them, it's other (mostly Ashkenazi) religious people. A lot of people here just seem to like to bash seculars while there rants acyually are based on b*llshit. And no.19, don't get me started about the Haredim. The racism in Haredi society towards anyone Haredi but non-Ashkenazi is the worst kind of racism to be found in the entire country. And let's not even start about non-Haredim. All of this not withstanding, the racism displayed towards the Ethiopian community in IL indeed is disgusting. Many of them have characteristics that plenty of Israelis would do well to learn from.

Does racism exist in other countries as well? it definitly does. However, for a country that prides itself as being a true democracy and the only one in the middle east, discrimination and racism should not be tolerated. The fact of the matter is discrimination is very well rooted in israeli society, which makes it no better than its nieghbors. First is was ok to discriminate against Arabs, then ok against haridim, now it's ok to discriminate against Ethiopians and the list goes on.. In a true democracy this should not be the norm.

Maybe its because I lived in mainly mizrachi or mixed neighbourhoods but I find Israeli culture is much more mizrachi centred. If you are Ashkenazi, you are a laflaf (wimp), I don’t hear much Chava Alberstein lately, and everyone I know uses Arabic slang and little Yiddish.
