Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (01.23.08)
I don't know why tha author had to go to Kiryat Arba for this? If there is reason to believe that the Reform "Jew" in question may not even be Jewish or that the congregation will be strengthened by the scribes help, many Orthodox Rabbis would agree with this ruling.
62. Rabbi?? Hillul Ha'Shem
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (01.23.08)
I do not recognise this individual as a Rabbi. This is no longer a time or a country for racist old men.
63. Very sad
Heather ,   New York, USA   (01.23.08)
This story breaks my heart. Every Jew has the obligation and right to perform mitzvot, whether Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, or unaffiliated. Rabbi Lior is doing a disservice not only to the Reform community but to his own community by insisting that the petty differences between "movements" are more important than the fulfillment of mitzvot.

As he does'nt recognise reforms as being Jewish , they have'nt to perform Jewish mitswot . That's simple for him , they don't need Sifre Tora , Mezuzoth or Tefilim . Only Jews need them
65. bad journalism...!!!
David ,   Raanana, Israel   (01.25.08)
Does Ynet really think that this is a new ruling...?? It has been judaism's stand on the reform problem for many many years. Please do some better research if you try to be a serious news agency.
66. That's OK, we won't buy
Mahlon Drumgoole ,   Newark NJ   (01.25.08)
Rockets are falling on Sderot and the UN condemns Israel for defending itself. You would think that this "rabbi" would speak out against the evil that permeates the world's persecution of Israel and try to unite Jews towards their defense of the Jwish State. Yet this divider insults Jewish supporters of Israel by this stupid and cruel directive. I get mail from Orthodox charities at least once a week asking for donations to some Orthodox Yeshiva or to some ultra-Orthodox cause. Obviously, the Orthodox who want my money are not interested if I'm an Orthodox Jew. If my money is not good endough to buy a mezzuzah, my money is not good enough to contribute to their charities. I suggest that all tourists to Israel avoid places that do not consider you to be a Jew if you are not one of them.
67. Mezzuzahs & Torah scrolls to Reform Jews?
Dr. Russell Lieberma ,   USA   (01.25.08)
If the good rabbi is so bent out of shape with issuing this decree regarding Reform Jews, better call an ambulance once he finds out how many Messianic Jews do the same (Mezzuzahs & Tefillin). I think this is totally ridiculous when it is about us Jews: Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstruction, and Messianic to have our time with HaShem. The worst anti-Semite is another Jew! Shabbat Shalom & Am Yisrael Chai!
68. I'm a reformi using tefillin...!
Gabriel ,   Budapest, Hungary   (01.27.08)
This is stupid! In Hungary Reform is a Jewish congregation (www.szimsalom.hu) recognized by the state. I out tefillin each day and keep Shabbat. We have everything: Torah, Bar/bat Mitzvah, celebrate all the important Jewish festivities... Nobody has the right to obstacle me or other Jews to perform mitzvot.
69. Right on Rabbi!
Michael U ,   SF,CA   (01.29.08)
I dont have a lot of respect for Reform Judaism. It is not a religion, it is a country club for socializing. I have visited one of these establishments, and I also donate some money to them, but I am vastly disappointed with the level of Yirat Hashem in these so-called synagogues. I am Baal Teshuva and am on the path toward full observance. Reform has no-observance, no mitzvahs, no emmunah, no nothing. I dont know why they even celebrate Pesach, because they dont even believe there was an exodus {Shame on them!}. Why pretend you have belief, why profane the holy Torah and all the ritual objects. If a man or woman really wants to connect with religion they must seperate themselves from such apostates and find a shul which provides the Torah culture, Torah Mitzvot, and Torah society. Reform is bunk... I know I almost was Bar Mitzvahed in such a lowly place. Thank HASHEM I was not sent down that path.
70. Orthodox do Kiruv
Michael U ,   SF,CA   (01.29.08)
I am lucky because I met an Orthodox Rabbi from my lowly Reform Unaffiliated Shul. This is why I still give them Tzeddekah. But I no longer go to that Synagogue once I heard from the Vice President of the shul that he didnt believe there was an Exodus. The Rabbi also doesnt have a shred of emmunah, he is just doing his job. I am very disappointed with the level of Reform Judaism. But in Judaism we have this idea called Teshuva. Anyone who is born Jewish can ask for forgiveness, repent his transgression, and be forgiven. I realize that Reform is a perversion of Judaism. Judaism devoid of Mitzvot is just a social organization. Torah is living and growing, and it is a TREE OF LIFE for those who grasp it. I recommend all who are upset about Judaism to seek out the nearest Chabad Rabbi or Orthodox Rabbi and sit down and talk about the issues. My Orthodox Rabbi is a very kind man and has spent countless hours studying and davening with me. I dont know why any Jew would feel anything but love for the Orthodox Jews. They are the most sincere I have encountered. I love all Jews, but I feel sorry for those who are following a path which leads to destruction. I have seen all the intermarried families at the Reform Shul and I cry at the loss for our people. Reform is the path to destruction. Teshuva feels good and is good for the soul. You who rebel against Hashem, this message is for you.
71. #48 Mezzuzah is not magic
Michael U ,   SF,CA   (01.29.08)
#48, I dont know if you are Jewish or not, your post was rambling and unintelligent. But I gather you consider the Mezzuzah as some magic amulet. A Mezzuzah is never to be considered a magic amulet. Those who do are not fulfilling the mitzvah. We are commanded to put a Mezzuzah up on our door by Torah, where in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 it is written "You shall write it on the doorposts of your house". We also recite this in the Shema prayer. Several other important mitzvot are mentioned, including the mitzvah of wearing tzittzits on our garments. You also dont really understand the blessing said when putting up a Mezzuzah. This is not magic, the words to the blessing are simply "Blessed are you HASHEM, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with his Mitzvot and commanded us to affix a Mezzuzah". Anyone can say it while affixing the mezzuzah. #48, your understanding of Judaism seems quite skewered to me. Hashems love of our people will continue as long as we are HIS people, doing HIS commandments. I dont know where you come up with your complaints.
72. Michael U
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.29.08)
This # 48 pretends to be a conservative convert , but he is always attacking Rabbanim and our great sages . Out of this his mouth and head arre full of whom the christians call jesus . So he being a Jew , a TRUE one , is very doubtfull .
73. Michael U , no exodus for reforms ?
charles ,   petach tikva   (01.29.08)
How is this possible ? even i , a secular Jew , do believe that this happened . So for reforms , Jews were not liberated from slavery ? Are you 100 % sure of what you are saying ? I was already astonished when a reform person told here that he did'nt know that writing was forbidden Shabbat , but this ?....
74. Rabbi Lior
(07.29.08)
I have been in Reform temples in various places in the US and the unfortunate truth is that although they have many members who are halachically Jewish, they also have many members who are not Jewish. In one case only the grandfather was Jewish, but not his wife, children nor grandchildren. So for this reason, I agree with Rabbi Lior. The Reform movement is mocking Judaism.
