31. Erm, Ynet really needs to do some research
Danny   (02.17.08)
This is the resolution: http://www.lsesu.com/export/sites/LSE/upload_gallery/ugm14.02.08.doc I would be shocked if the number of students who voted on this was more than double figures and not surprised if it was single. It is of course a meaningless gesture designed to give the impression of "pressure on Israel" where no such pressure really exists.
32. you can never hide the truth
syrian ,   syria   (02.17.08)
not all the world's blind.. still more to come.
33. LOL
hello ,   mine   (02.17.08)
You think the limey kids will stop doing business they will sell their mums for a quarter
34. Sometimes
Elianah ,   London, UK   (02.17.08)
Sometimes people's minds are so open that their brains fall out.
35. re. #22 - which students were involved
Lizzie ,   London, UK   (02.17.08)
In response to #22, no, I don't believe the motion was passed by a group representing a cross-section of the LSE student body or the UK as a whole. This motion was previously proposed a couple of weeks ago. (The latest motion altered some of the wording, but the resolutions remained the same.) Then, it was defeated by 7 votes (292 against, 285 for and 6 spoilt). This time round, the LSE SU Jewish & Israeli societies called for students to not attend rather than vote no, to ensure the motion lacked legitimacy. The results this time? 46 against, 339 for and 13 spoilt. Given the small difference between those for this time and last, I believe the tactics of "boycotting a boycott" worked. It is clear that the motion did not make many students reconsider their position. Also, apart from students who regularly attend the weekly Union General Meeting, those attending on both occasions were only students who felt particularly strongly one way or another. I would suggest that most of the student body were too busy with assignments or having lunch with friends, away from the discouraging nature of the debate that seemed to put you in a box of being either "pro-Palestine" or "anti-Palestine".
36. #32 - you are SO RIGHT! There is MORE to come!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.17.08)
37. What about Lebanon???
Jeffrey ,   Boston, USA   (02.17.08)
Aren't the Palestinians in Lebanon made to live separately in squalid camps without the right to jobs and citizenship? What do the geniuses in LSE have to say about that? Oh yeh. Nothing.
38. Lizzie #29
Eldar ,   Israel   (02.17.08)
Lizzie, first thank you for your vote. Second, please don't draw any conclusions about how Israelis, Zionists or anyone feel from talkbacks. First, because this anonymous forum (on YNet and any other talkback forum) allows for people to say the most blasphemous and disgusting things with no fear of accountability. Second, only the most unreasonable, angry, vociferous (and unable to express themselves in a productive way) people use this as their primary mode of expression. Some do so all day on every site and article. There are many rational and excellent reasons to condemn these boycott efforts. I agree with the talkbackers here (though not with their tone or vehemence) that boycotting Israel in the broader scheme of global human rights abuses is obscene and usually inspired by individuals who have no real interest in justice - only in attacking Israel. I am glad that there are more students like you at LSE than those who would support such efforts.
39. #29
Ram ,   London   (02.17.08)
I can feel that you are a well intentioned person. It is a shame that even though the UK (and its universities) is full of people like yourself that when it comes to vilifying Israel little is done to counteract the source. For the sake of justice I wish that more people like you would take the troube to find out the "honest truth" about what is going on in the ME and the kind of daily attacks and planned attacks on its citizens that Israel has to cope with on a daily basis. Israel has no desire to expand nor has it any desire whatsoever for conflict but the opposite. Peace would be a Godsend to it. Its neighbours want it "eliminated". The muslim world is getting more radicalised by the day and even the future for the EU does not bode well should it not react like Denmark has now done with its response to the cartoonist's muslim threat. People should stand for justice leaving bias aside. That would be a nice thing. Not that I am finding excuses to justify some of the posts here but most Jews find the UK media biased in favour of the Palestinians and arabs in general.
40. They'd have to give up a lot...
Leah C ,   Maryland, USA   (02.17.08)
because Israel has made a lot of contributions to the world.. the Pentium chip in your computer, some cell phone technology (blue tooth), voice mail technology, the list goes on... let them go ahead and try
41. London Students
Brod ,   USA   (02.17.08)
The only ones who would be making this move would would be the Islamist-Jihadists and the Antisemite Papists. Their true identity should be exposed to the world.
42. london student union
steve ,   usa   (02.17.08)
They are still upset that 60- years ago israel broke away from the motherland -
43. Start with boycotting England, I do.
David ,   Boston, USA   (02.17.08)
Afterall, its the Briish who set up the racist regime of the Hashemites in Arab Jordan Palestine and to this day has a law forbidding Jewish citizens. All Jewish land, holy sites were confiscated. British history has alot to be ashamed of. This call to boycott Israel is another example of it.
44. If the unions are beginning to
Ypip ,   Canada   (02.17.08)
question the movitation of this boycott of the LSE - which btw - is quite pro union; I think to coin the phrase "getting drunk to get drunk" would appear appropriate in light of the situation.
45. we cant deceive world anymore
Aaron Shavit ,   Manchester, UK   (02.17.08)
Clearly we are living in a new world were facts can't be hidden. in the last few years world became more and more aware of the facts in Israel/Pal territories. Israelis have to understand the fact that their policies are not acceptable in the 21th centurey. Israel can't protect itself by PR campains or faked media anymore. the only solution is to change its policies seriously and to try to live like any 'NORMAL' nation in the world.
46. #35, I agree if Israel does need to respond
Danny   (02.17.08)
then it should respond by pointing out the minute numbers involved, rather than jumping up and down about "anti-semiticism" or "Eurarabia". It would help to tell newspapers in advance or do a counter-PR release along the lines of "Virtually no students attend Anti-Israeli vote", after all what is 339 - 1%, maybe 3%. - or "Over 90% of LSE students don't call for boycott" or "Anti-Israeli motion gets practically no support", rather than this drip, drip of news of meaningless "boycotts" which give the impression they are much more serious than they really are... We had the same with the UCU.
47. L .S. E .STICK TO YOUR SUBJECT!
ROLAND SEENER ,   LONDON ENGLAND   (02.17.08)
NON-RECOGNITION OF LSE.DEGREES WILL NOW BE SOUGHT AND MANY ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS.-WILL IN TURN BLACK-LIST THEM.THE ARABS AND FASCISTS WHO SUPPORT THESE OPINIONS HAVE WON A SHORT TERM VICTORY,BUT WILL BE THE DOWN FALL OF THE COUNTRY THEY SHOULD STICK TO THE SUBJECT THEY HAVE ELECTED TO STUDY,.ECONOMICS THEY SHOULD BE REMINDED THAT .DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOUR IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO MAKING GOOD STUDENTS,FOR WHICH I HOPE THEY HAVE STIFF EXAM PAPERS,... ISRAELI INVIGILLATORS ...,AND CONSEQUENTLY FAIL THEIR EXAMS!
48. UK: The standard for mediocre
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (02.17.08)
Oh well. At least the UK is still able to occasionally produce "watchable" entertainment pieces, a la Masterpiece Theater. But I am quite sure that the LSE "student activists" will soon have Dickens beheaded and Jane Austen in a burka. The UK is and has always been the benchmarker for bad dentistry, poor personal hygiene and complexions in need of soap and a good scrub. Now their personal historical animosity towards all things Jooooish bubbles to the surface once more. If you loved Bevin and White Papers you will love today's UK government and the activism of the LSE. Sort of a Junior College for those who cannot or will not perform any usable product or perform any needed function. Totally dismissable.
49. The ugly British Antisemitism once again.
Antonio ,   Haifa`   (02.17.08)
Here's a taste of reality: http://www.israelforum.com/board/showthread.php?t=13628
50. Of course you can hide the truth, Syrian
Jacob Blues ,   New York City   (02.17.08)
You live in a police state which has been doing so for over 50 years. Put up enough propaganda and government controlled press, and it will work wonders. No surprise that your government refuses to allow a free press in Syria.
51. When will the illegal occupation of N.Ireland end?
Abe Froman ,   NY, NY   (02.17.08)
For centuries Northern Ireland has been under brutal occupation. A separation barrier exists in Belfast, separating Catholic and Protestant. The Army runs security. Checkpoints harass Catholics. When will this apartheid in Northern Ireland end? When will Britain leave Northern Ireland to its inhabitants, and compensate them for the privilege?
52. LSE and University of London
Leonarisso Alexis ,   London,Great Britain   (02.17.08)
Verily, the boycott of apartheid Israel will occur if not now, in the very near future in the London School of Economics and soon other University of London colleges, Kings College, School of Oriental & African Studies, Queen Mary and Royal Holloway. I am happy to say that the vote at LSE was truly democratic and legitimate. All creeds, cultures and people of different religions cast their vote. We may come from different walks of life but one thing is that we uphold is British values; we do not support apartheid anywhere in the world. We do not support states that use international funding for illegal and unjust actions. We do not support states that continually defy the international community and international law: Israel is allegedly a modernised, democratic and developed country. It is not acceptable therefore that Israel conducts herself in the way she has done which is why the people in British universities and unions stand strong by denouncing and condemning Israel and we express ourselves by method of this and future boycotts until Israel is a country governed by reason, mentality and humanity. We even have Jews voting for this boycott, so it is not valid to call this anti-Semitism. I am utterly disgusted by the views of some in this talkback. So much so that I have showed them to many in the student union and we will be publishing the comments of some Israeli citizens in our next handout. May the State of Israel live in prosperity and peace with its neighbours by abiding by international law; withdrawing from all occupied lands and helping to establish an immediate and lasting deserved State of Palestine to the legitimate occupants of the land; the Palestinians.
53. Aaron, the world isn't concerned with Deception
Jacob Blues ,   New York City   (02.17.08)
It just doesn't care. How else can one understand the idea that over 4,000 rockets have been launched at Sderot, and HAMAS is still given carte blanche to act this way. Of course, this is the same world that accepts Darfur, accepts the ethnic cleansing in Kenya, has several billion living in abject poverty. No, no deception required. Indeed, if Israel were to act in the same "normal" manner that its neighbors do, we would be talking about the Palestinian community in the past tense.
54. This shouldnt suprise any of us...
Benny B. ,   LONDISTAN   (02.17.08)
From a country who has shows like: "Make me a Muslim", and the Anglican preacher twit who invites Sharia, outlaws the WORD "ISLAMIC TERROR", and who has 15,000 islamic honor killings a year. What do you expect. nothing less than LONDISTAN
55. #45 Deceived Aaron
Raoul ,   Netanya, Israel   (02.17.08)
Aaron, live your normal life in Britain with Sharia law. With the head of the Church of England leading you away from normal British law, you can't go wrong retreating from the 21st Century.
56. Boycott British Students and Universities
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (02.17.08)
One they are breaking American Law also if they want to boycott the let's boycott them Don't Hire British Students and Professors wishing to work in the US. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com/
57. LSE, The London Axis of Evil!
Mark ,   Boston   (02.17.08)
That is why I boycott the United Kingdom.
58. The British learned nothing from 7/7.
Mark ,   Boston   (02.17.08)
The BBC incites its Muslim population. London Bridges have Fallen Down! It reminds me of Beiruit. That city was known as the Paris of the Mid-East. Not any more! Militant Islamic groups control the country. Look at what is going on in the UK. Sharia Law,Radical Mosques that spread mesaages of jihad, death, and violence to all non-Muslims every single day.
59. #52
Ram ,   London   (02.17.08)
As much as I think your post is impressive in its eloquence, I would have found it credible if you had addressed the non-recognition of the state Israel and the constant volleys of Quassams by the Palestinians.
60. BLIND STUDENTS
rune ,   oslo norway   (02.17.08)
