31. Aiding The Enemy
A.C.Guard ,   USA   (12.18.08)
I have long wondered what went wrong with Israel. Is it it's people or leaders. My conclusion is that defeatists like Eiland, cowards and crooks like Olmert and an entire group of incompetents in government have destroyed the will of the people. For Eiland to be able to say this and not be arrested for treason or for aiding the enemy shows the decline in the backbone of the government and ultimately the citizens. Much like what the U.S. will be going through in the Obama years.
32. #15 Iran's is Israel's enemy
Brod ,   USA   (12.18.08)
Perhaps you have been away in Timbuktu. The fact is the fanatical Islamist-Jihadist state of Iran is Israel's number one enemy. They have surrounded Israel with their fanatical Islamist-Jihadist tentacles-Hezbollah and Hamas. They have threatened to annihilate Israel several times. They are feverishly working on their nukes. It does not take rocket science to see the dots.
33. #12 Brod, usa
Mark ,   Holland   (12.18.08)
NO, Eiland; the ex General in the IDF and the former Naional Security Council Chairman does not know what he is talking about, but Brod, sitting behind his computer screen with a dangerously high level of testosterone, does know what he is talking about. Srry Brod to be so blunt, but you seem as dum as our president, if not dummer.
34. Mark #33
Brod ,   USA   (12.18.08)
So, you think Israel is incapable? How many books have you read pertaining to the region? Do you know Israel's track record in defending herself against the dark forces the past 60 years? In other countries a person like Eiland would have been charged with treason and incarcerated for damaging Israel's national security interests. His statement is not just wrong and stupid but detrimental to Israel's deterrence. He certainly does not know Israel's capability.
35. You need to WANT to pull the trigger
Gideon Reader   (12.18.08)
General Eland, ...BeeEss! Israel can shut Iran's Ports in the Persian Gulf. Israel can mine the Straits of Hormuz. It can sink Iranian commerical shipping. It can totally devestate Iran's airports and kill Irans water supply system. Israel can totally remove the ability to light the country by destroying it's power grid, ruin it's fuel depots and remove all major and secondary rail lines and roadways through mountainous areas and roadways into all major cities. It can drown Iran in raw sewage by killing the primative sewage plants, few those may be.. Mining of the Straight of Hormuz and decapitation through targeted Sanctioned Killing of the ruling political echelon and religous hierachy is very possible. However that does take initiative, lots of baytzim, and the sincerest will to kill your enemy.
36. And thusly Toyota was begat
Gideon Reader   (12.18.08)
Geeze Forever Vacationing Terry#21 in Eilat, why would you feel bad? I would not feel bad. I would feel , well I would feed pretty much OK. Sort of like when Truman lit up the Japanese, ending WWII in the pacific..
37. Pour l'encouragement les otres
Gideon Reader   (12.18.08)
#33Prisoner Mark in Fitnaland War is too imnportant to be left to Generals. particularly Leftist Generals.
38. Dont Worry......
Bryan ,   Belgium   (12.18.08)
Bush will come to the rescue. Oooops, I forgot that George W. Bush is getting the hell out of the white house. Its time for Barack HUSSEIN Obama. I suggest you start worrying!
39. #27 5th generation
Bandar ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (12.18.08)
There wont be too many generations after yours. Enjoy life while you still can idiot.
40. Nora, #13
Hezbollah   (12.18.08)
Whats wrong with the alternative Nora?
41. #12 Brod, usa..... Correction to #33
(12.18.08)
the last line should read: but you seem as dum as Your shoe dodging president, if not dummer.
42. EILAND MISSES THE MOST IMPORTANT
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (12.18.08)
Part and that is Iran's retaliation.Talking in terms of the extent of destruction Israel could achieve is one thing for theoretical purposes but when it comes to Iran's retaliation he seems to have missed the most important part and that is....................to what extent will Israel sustain its own losses?Or does he feel that the sky in Israel will be showering flowers whilst the Israeli pilots head for the nuclear sites?
43. so when do we surrender to the latest goliath?
ask G-D to help   (12.18.08)
1 samuel 17 teaches us that all it takes for G-D to defeat our enemies is 1 fearless man like a David. doesn't israel have at least just 1 David left today ?
44. #34 Brod, usa
Mark ,   Holland   (12.18.08)
Stop preaching about Israel's victories more than 50 years ago. The reality on the ground has changed. Do you remeber in 2006 when Israel was humiliated by a few thousand men lightly armed with no tanks, no navy and no air force? Hezbollah's damage to 'mighty Israel's' reputation will pale in comparison to what the Iranians will do. So control your testosterone before it gets the best of you.
45. we got nukes too better us them then let Iran use them in us
SW ,   RBS   (12.18.08)
46. #42 Mahmood
Bandar ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (12.18.08)
Dont forget Hezbollah that is waiting in the wings. Hezbollah has rearmed and is by far superior to the group that fought in 2006. The scenario will be as follow: While Israel will be struggling to keep Hezbollah and Hamas at bay, the Iranians will be having a field day by obliterating Dimoma.
47. Bandar - do you pay attention to economy?
simon doerksen   (12.18.08)
Irans economy is in shables they have been spending like drunken sailors as though demand for oil would rise for ever. despite its large population and oil reserves iran (+syria + Lebanon) export less then israel. It is a flimsy police state dictatorship built on collapsing oil prices. They are going to have to decide what's more important - the iranian peoples silence and apathy or hezballah. Stop listening to demagogue speeches and take a look at the price of oil.
48. Mark #44
Brod ,   USA   (12.18.08)
You are right about the incompentence of Olmert and Peretz for restraining the IDF from doing their jobs on the ground. Israel still managed to defeat the Iranian army called Hezbollah and destroyed their enclave in Beirut. The only difference is that it took more than an week to defeat them because of the stupidity of the political leadership in playing General on their Generals.
49. Eiland
gary ,   washington usa   (12.18.08)
Military capability is not the issue. Resolve is.
50. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR
Brant ,   Hilton Head USA   (12.18.08)
Bandar and Mahmoud are exercised!! They see big stuff from Hozb Allah and Iran. You two guys should use your heads. There will be no Lebanon if it ever gets to the poing where Iramn strikes Dimona. You need to understand that Israel WILL take the rest of you with it if it's existence is threatened. The rest you don't understand is that in places with Free Speech; like Israel, talk is cheap and easy. Any retired General can say anything and be neither censored nor censured. Watch that Arab bravado. All it has ever resulted in is defeat.
51. Eiland: How much did Iran paid you to make such statement
Zohan ,   Tel Aviv   (12.18.08)
Just strike the nuke, the regime and the Iranians will finish the rest.
52. Conventional strike now or inevitable nuclear war later
Joe ,   Canada   (12.18.08)
If Eiland comments are valid & the IDF as a result does not soon try to stop or delay the production of nuclear weapons in Iran then it later highly increases the probability that a nuclear conflict might be inevitable instead of a conventional strike by the US or Israel. The outcome would be even worse on both sides. There is a big difference in letting North Korea get nuclear bombs & doing the same thing with Iran. North Korea has no ideology to pursue. Its leaders used the atomic blackmail only to keep their power over their country . Iran leaders, on the other hand, have long term hegemony goals to spread their version of Islam over as many countries as they can, without regards to the number of "martyrs" it might cause among its own people.
53. feedback
m.gil negrete ,   auburn hills,mi-usa   (12.18.08)
too all of you negative people out there.gods chosen people are still the jews.he will not leave them nor forsake them.just be strong and corageus.
54. #48 Brod,usa
Mark ,   Holland   (12.19.08)
When I compared to the brainless shoe dodger president of yours, I was right. Your testosterone is getting the best of you. The former National Secuity Council Chairman ex General Eiland does not know what he is talking about, and the Winograd report is wrong, only Brod knows what he is talking about. Israel lost in 2006, get over it fool.
55. Everyone should read #46
Jake   (12.19.08)
Bandar of Beirut reassured Mahmoud of Iran, that if Israel strikes Iran's nuclear sites: "Dont forget Hezbollah that is waiting in the wings. Hezbollah has rearmed and is by far superior to the group that fought in 2006. The scenario will be as follow: While Israel will be struggling to keep Hezbollah and Hamas at bay, the Iranians will be having a field day by obliterating Dimoma" If anyone had any doubts that Hizbullah is a proxy of Iran, this describes the situation beautifully. We need to thank Bandar for his eloquence.
56. #44 Is that heroism for you?
Jake   (12.19.08)
What was so great and heroic about Hizbullah's 2006 war against Israel? The fact that they conducted a surprise rocket diversion-kidnap-kill mission against Israel, without any provocation, in order to release a convicted serial killer? The fact that they barraged Israeli civilians, including Arab towns, with 1000's of rockets? The fact that they hid among civilians, and their leader was in an underground bunker somewhere safe? And still the IDF managed to send almost 600 Hizbullah fighters to Allah.
57. Iran
sebastian ,   New York, USA   (12.19.08)
The question is not whether Israel can destroy Iran's nuclear capability. The question is whether Israel should. The answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT. It would be a disaster to Israel's security and future existance
58. The Chanukah Message
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah   (12.19.08)
B"H Maybe the IDF cannot but the People of Israel with G-d's help CAN! Let's not repeat the Sin of the Spies.
59. I said to you before
Siad ,   Muslim world   (12.19.08)
Iran every day is increasing its military power, they are not any arab country, they are more powerous by far.its more easy to israelis to attack France or Britain than Iran,by far.It is not only the matter Israel is incapable to stop iranian nuclear program, the matter is Israel cannot win a war with Iran.
60. #54, where is the Winograd report from Israel's enemies?
Jake   (12.19.08)
Hizbullah and Iran are talking about Israel's destruction more than ever, they are arming themselves and bragging about it, they are threatening and saber-rattling, and talking about a repetition of "The Divine Victory". All those who are writing off Israel and predicting its imminent defeat have got another thing coming.
