31. We're all going to die at the hands of snooty intellectuals
MJH ,   Wyoming   (01.09.09)
Udi, this letter is so over-the-top I actually am wiping away tears of laughter. Jesus, you are an idiot. NYC intellectuals, living in a vacuum, deciding who's moral and who's not. Hopefully you will never be in a position of political influence or many people will die.
32. To Jake
Gidi ,   Tel Aviv   (01.09.09)
Agree with all you write concerning this family who, with afew, very few, thankfully, are a cancer in our midst.
33. Udi Aloni -
Andy H. ,   toronto, canada   (01.09.09)
As a Palestenian , I appreciate the the way you think about the situation in GAZA, I wish more people like you says the truth for the sake of peace and stop to this nonsense, Again, thank you so much. I greatly appreciate your generosity. Best Regards,
34. Dillusional
Lauren Albright ,   Silicon Valley   (01.09.09)
Another dillusional left-wing radical who wants to blame the Jews for everything. These people COULD have had a state in 1948, and instead ALL the surrounding coutries attacked infant Israel, a country full of Holocaust survivors and Jews kicked out of Arab countries. People like you only incite more violence and create the biggest roadblocks to real peace!
35. enlighten me please
eli ,   jerusalem   (01.09.09)
Who was the palastinian ruler, king, PM what ever, before Israel occupied Palestine, the british high commisioner or who?
36. answering noa
debbie ,   israel   (01.09.09)
TO JAKE Keep up the good work. You are very well informed and can back up your statements with hard facts, most people just speak out of emotion, but don't know the true facts.
37. RE "Bless You" #16
Jake   (01.09.09)
That certainly is an appropriate response, after the series of sneezes in this "beautiful" open letter. That about sums up the content. There is not a single truth that Mr. Aloni tells in this article, not even one; it is all subjective and biased drivel devoid of fact, and if you would like to see some refutations, read what I wrote in #1, 3, and 10, and if you would like more information I would be more than happy to humor you. Just for your info, Mr. Aloni is not an "Israeli living in Israel". Rather, he is an Israeli-American living in America. And judging from his photo here, he lives in anything but fear.
38. #19, Here we go again with moral equivalence
Jake   (01.09.09)
Are you for real? Comparing "greater Israel Jews" to the madrassa-bound children future terrorists in South Asia? What is Greater Israel, anyway? Anyway you look at it, it is less than a fly speck on a wall map of the world? And for you, that is as scary as an entire planet under the iron fist of Shariah law, with chopped heads and hands, women hiding under burqas, and everything else? This open letter is nothing more than a polemic with no factual information from a washed-out hard-core Leftist who turned his back on Israel years ago. Now you can believe his 1+1=3 B.S. if it makes you feel good. Or you can deal with the facts: Israel went and continues to go further to compromise for peace than sanity would allow, and the Palestinians never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
39. To Andy in Toronto
JPS ,   Efrat   (01.09.09)
Sorry, Andy, but this guy's letter is full of much of the propaganda that is skewing people's minds. For example, he says "spreading random death" - no doubt based on the propaganda that Israel is "indiscriminately bombing" civilian neighborhoods. This statement reflects total ignorance of military operations, where any ordnance fired from an aircraft or ground artillery needs authorization and a specific target. There simply is no case of Israeli aircraft randomly dropping bombs - any pilot from any other airforce in the world will confirm this (go ask some Canadian F-18 pilots). There are 3 wars going on here: the fighting between the two sides, the propaganda war, and the diplomatic war. Sorry, but this letter is simply part of the propaganda war. Any hope for peace will come only from face-to-face negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians. Given the current Hamas policy of refusing to negotiate with Israel and refusal to seek peace, well, the military fighting is going to continue. It makes us sick. It's a disgusting situation. But we're not going to sit here and let Hamas and the other radical groups keep shooting and bombing our civilians, like they've been doing for the past 20 years.
40. shocking talkbacks
Naushad ,   Dhaka, Bangladesh   (01.09.09)
It's quite disturbing to see some of these opinions, I wouldn't have expected such a large proportion of readers even at this very slanted news source to be so terribly misguided. References here seem to indicate a most Orwell-esque haze of misinformation, lies and propaganda. The harsh reality of a brutal occupation seems yet to dawn upon this population. Even in the face of the most recent savage attacks on innocents in Gaza, it's shocking to see this insensitivity to your neighbours--your brothers and sisters who have lived before you on the land you claim today.
41. With a letter like yours what are you doing here?
robin ,   israel   (01.09.09)
Go occupy a corner in England, or in America, or Africa or Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon. Oh, none of those places will let you in without a greencard or visa from Israel? Maybe you could marry someone from one of those places and receive citizenship, at least from America (forget Canada-that peace loving nation accepts so few people, mostly only white Protestants who are healthy). But a spokesman like you surely would be accepted into one of the surrounding 10 Arab/Muslim countries? Keep denouncing Israel-you might receive honorary citizenship. Clearly someone who hates being an occupier so much should himself stop occupying. But where will you go? Who will accept you? And let's say you do get accepted, you might have to serve in their army and not all those countries would allow you to speak out the way you have spoken out here. Really, I think your mother has enough money to buy you a plane ticket. Pack your bags and go.
42. #29 tells the truth like it is
Jake   (01.09.09)
43. Village Leagues vs. National Guidance Commitee
Jake   (01.09.09)
For everyone's info (and in opposition to the Aloni polemic): In the 1970's, the PLO set up the National Guidance Commitee which drew the loyalties of Palestinian political figures in the territories. To counter this, Israel supported and funded the Village Leagues. These had nothing to with Hamas or Islamists. They were basically comprised of West Bank Palestinian mukhtars loyal to King Hussein of Jordan. In the Gaza strip, which was much poorer and had no connection to Jordan, Israel allowed some Islamic organizations (not the Moslem Brotherhood which, among Palestinians, would become Hamas) to be registered as not-for-profit charity organizations. Israel allowed these organizations to receive money from King Hussein and Saudi Arabia, to operate charities, schools, hospitals, etc. at a grass roots level. By the time Hamas began to operate as a recognizable organization (around 1988), it was committed from the beginning to the destruction of Israel and the killing of Jews en-masse, in word and deed. Needless to say, Israel did not allow it to be registered as a not-for-profit charity group!
44. So when is this guy going to move off my American Indian
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (01.09.09)
land? He has me pushed off my land.He waited until the colonialists pushed me off my land.....then he decided to join them, and plunder it too, when he came to the United States. So if I start up a terrorist organization to rid my land of him, and the American fighter planes that let him squat on my land........I'm perfectly within my rights by his explanation. And his Palestinian bretheren are still coming in the droves to occupy my Native American Indian land. Excuses are like bung holes......every terrorist has one. Even the ones living and supporting them in the United States. He did fail to mention that the Arabs and Persians stole the Jews land by brutal force, then, displaced the Jews to the ends of the earth. He left out that line. He also left out the video's from the 1940's that show very few Arabs or Jews on the land, when it was given to the Jews in the first place. These hoards of Arabs showed up through uncontrolled birth rates. They are showing up on my former land in the United States also. Just because a group of people birth themselves out of a home...........does it mean the Jews or anyone else......has to supply them a residence to live at. It darn sure doesn't give the Palestinians the right to preach Zenophobia and the expulsion of the Jews by terrorism. I suppose China will be kicking the Arabs out, as well as the Persians, when their population reaches a crisis point? They might even use terrorism to do so. They might just legitimize it too. They voted for it democratically like the Germans and Palestinians. So it must be right? Go figure?
45. UDI, get your facts right!
A proud Israeli ,   Haifa, Israel   (01.09.09)
1) We left Gaza 2 years ago, i.e. no occupation UDI. 2) We suffered 6,000 rockets since, i.e. no Peace UDI. 3) We are the victims UDI, the IDF is made of young men and women who protect you and I UDI. 4) We did not occupy anyone prior to 67 and were still facing an attack by 7 Arab countries, UDI. etc, etc Get your facts right UDI, there are enough idiots out there who do not.
46. "Palestine and Israel can share – as equals"
Michael ,   NY   (01.09.09)
I won't even call you ignorant because that would be an understatement! Don't even look at politics or opinoins, just look at history!! you think if Israel today would open all it's borders for all to live as one there would be peace?? the entire hamas is dedicated to the destruction of Israel, the creation of a Palastinien state, and the annihilation of the jewish people, THAT INCLUDES YOU!!!
47. The Limits of Discourse
Fed Up ,   Barcelona   (01.09.09)
The author bases his strongly worded arguments on dogmatic fantasies, not facts. When cause and effect are seen through this sort of scratched and stained lens, to what extent can discourse even get through? Can you reason with this sort of fundamentalist?: The sort of fundamentalist that thinks he holds some ultimate key to the universe, and that just wants to be believed and given power; the sort that absolutely doesn't want truth unless its HIS truth.
48. Evil mother, evil son
Avi ,   Geneva   (01.09.09)
Traitors to their people. No shame in them.
49. disgusting totally
Ilana   (01.09.09)
yes, respect hamas' covenant to kill every Israeli. Mr. Aloni you respect their desire to kill you and your family and your babies. Blah blah blah. What are you just plain filled up with your lovely ideas and just know you are right. You can just hand over Israel and send its citizens back to Russia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Iran , Morocco, China. South America, Poland Gremany to be killed by others whom you respect. Do you also respect the Europeans' choice to surrender to HItler?? God I wish I could slap you and I have never slapped anyone in my entire life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn you.
50. Monster's son?
Andy Levy-Stevenson ,   Efrat, Israel   (01.09.09)
"Hamas is the monster's son" No Udi, you are the monster's son and you have learned her lessons well.
51. Udi , a dreamer
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.09.09)
hamas attacks Israel because they don't want to live in a ghetto , Udi wrote . And , Udi , were'nt there terrorist attacks before June 67 ? Did you read hamas charter : the destruction of the "Zionist entity" as they call Israel , that's their goal . Is it with those people that you want to discuss ? I always had ideas very near to yours , they need a state . But when we see all their refusals , even the best proposals that were rejected , we have to change our ideas about them . Finally , who engaged the six days war ? the arabs . We BEGGED king Hussein not to intervene , at no avail . When engaging a war , and loosing , there is a price tag . You can't return to the former situation , you have to pay .
52. Udi
biber ,   telaviv, israel   (01.09.09)
Udi Aloni your article starts with an opening line Israeli-American. I think if you are such a great supporter of the terrorist group Hamas, and you feel so sorry for the Palestinians why dont you give up your Israeli ID and declare yourself to be someone like Palestinian/Gazan-American. And yes when your palestinian brothers are suffering here in the hands of Hamas, dont live there in states come down to face the troubles with your palestinian brothers.
53. To Mr Udi Aloni
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (01.09.09)
I find your letter to be beneath contempt. I am disgusted at what you write. Noa is 100% correct. The true cause of Palestinian suffering is their determination to hang onto a fanatic murderous ideology, namely the destruction of the State of Israel and the killing of all the Jews in this land. Read the Hamas charter!
54. there's a story about a rabbi...
oferdesade ,   israel   (01.09.09)
.... who listened to the husband's side and said, "you're right." then he listened to the wife's side and said, "you're right, too." then to his disciples who asked him, "Rabbi, how can they both be right?" His answer to them was, of course, "you too are right." hamas is a cancerous outgrowth of islamic fundamentalism that exists all over the world and causes death and doom wherever moslems live. is islamic fundamentalism a result of christian acts over 1200 or so years ago? let the historians decide. is the situation in gaza a result of arab stupidity or dayan's decission to create a ghetto in 48? let the truman institute decide. using history to make excuses for the present is almost as bad as saying god or allah promised this land to the jews/moslems thousands of years ago - both claims are equally preposterous, coz if god made the promise, he should damned well make sure it was kept. he doesn't - ergo - he probably didn't. right now, israeli soldiers and hamas "militants" are killing palestinian women and children, as well as fatah "collaborators" without very much compassion. sadly, the world takes an easy way out and says if israel stops the bombing everyone will live happily ever after. this is no better than what came before. udi, you take the easy way out by using slogans in answer to what just may have been a heartfelt address. this is cheap. stick to films, where the narrative is linear (not that it needs to be; unfortunately few filmmakers are talented enough to create cinematic poetry that isn't totally incomprehensible). Noa - the chances that an oppressed people will rise against their masters is nil. it has never happened in history - so called revolutions are usually conducted by the well-fed middle class looking to better their betters. stick to music, it's less complex and less demanding on the soul. eventually, hamas too will become part of the political process, simply because it too is being led by the corrupt (if they're ready to sell their people's blood, they'll probably be willing to sell out), which is a good thing, coz where there's a price, there's a way.
55. #40, what a pile of rubbish...
Ted ,   UK   (01.09.09)
What type of history books you have there in Bangaladesh? Obviously you indoctorinated by muslim propaganda... go and learn history it is never too late..
56. Dreck subculture proponents
Kev ,   London   (01.09.09)
…have NO place commenting on politics. Neither John Lennon nor Udi Aloni are even slightly qualified to comment on the most menial of the important decisions that top politicians and military personnel make. It was all part of the beatnik, socialistic, proletariat ideal that has utterly failed us. We need to get over listening to these people, stat.
57. load of dreck!
kobi   (01.09.09)
this guy is sick beyond words. obviously no torah, no education, total useless idiot of the left. may he get heavenly help out of his jewicidal delusion.
58. #40: shocking ignorance
