31. What those screaming "racist" are overlooking
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.07.09)
There are many (like jj) who seem to operate with a trigger finger, ever ready to pounce on any story that confirms their hostile attitude toward Israel. As long as D's family understood this was a Jewish daycare center that would be promoting Jewish and Israeli culture and accepted that, I see little reason to have rejected the child. Most don't know that Alexander Hamilton, one of the US' founding fathers, studied at a Jewish school in the Caribbean long before he gained prominence. But of course in Israel things are more sensitive. Just this week MK Tibi, attending the Fatah conference, insisted Israeli Arabs are all "Palestinians". Not surprisingly, some who have suffered at Palestinian hands want nothing to do with them. It also goes two ways. Think how many times Israel's Arabs have complained about "Judaization" of Jerusalem, the Galilee or the Negev when Jews buy property and move in. Recall some recent riots in an Arab village (historically Jewish, BTW) into which two Jews had moved. So STFU about Israeli racism.
32. One bad apple will spoil a barrel of apples. It is best for
Rivkah   (08.07.09)
Jews to have their daycare centers, Arabs to have theirs, Messianics to have theirs, Adventists to have theirs, atheists to have theirs, etc. Moses had the most problems from mixed multitudes born of Hebrew-Egyptian marriages. The children did not know who or what they were, so they did not fit in anywhere and were rebellious. Separate but equal has its attributes and has worked well for thousands of years. In Mexico, Jews do go to separate Jewish schools and daycare centers to protect them from the Catholic predators who think Jews are heathen. Jews have to be protected. One Arab child could put poison in the punch and kill all the Jewish children if the parents told the Arab child to do that. That is the problem. So many non-Jews hate Jews, surviving means eating separately from non-Jews most of the time, as well as schooling and other activities being separate to protect the Jews.
33. Sorry leftists I don't see what is shocking here?
Michael ,   Jerusalem   (08.07.09)
Is there an arab care center that will care of Jews ? If I was the owner of the care center, as a Jew, I would have the same attitude. Arabs don't care about Jews, why should I care and spend money for them.
34. .. "and they suffered undue pain and suffering as a result"
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (08.07.09)
B"H Is there "undue" pain Arabs can suffer in Eretz Israel? Deut. 7:2 says: "and Hashem, your G-d, will deliver them before you, and you will smite them - you shell utterly destroy them; you shall not seal a covenant with them nor shall you show them favor." Neta Kadshai, Hashem is with you on this one, you cannot be forced by the secularists to send your kids where you don't want them to be.
35. What's the big deal?
Abraham ,   USA   (08.07.09)
In the US many country clubs don't allow Jews in - and they don't seem to mind.
36. to 32
Anna ,   Israel   (08.07.09)
<> First of all, not all Jews in Mexico go to separate schools, and not all of us (I rather say few among us would classify Mexican Catholics as predators). Maybe it's time to stop using the victim card to justify our own racism and bullying behavior It's time we act like grown ups and take responsibility for own actions and opinions ..
37. Why is there such hatred in ISrael???
sabbageorge ,   Tel Aviv   (08.07.09)
Why is there such hatred in ISrael??? Why do people hate according to race religion or color? This is disgusting in fact this is ISraels main problem today and Israelis even hate one another (you see this on the roads EVERYDAY!!!) stop the hatred!!!!
38. #5, Tom
Walt K ,   Sherbrooke, Canada   (08.07.09)
Don't forget that some areas in Europe are out of bound for none-muslims and that will be the same in Canada when islamists will be enough, because they know how to instill fears among politicians... All right, Tom ? At the end, are you muslim ?
39. Perhaps we should do that w/ dems.&repub. kids.or kids of
gay parents. Where ,   do you draw the line   (08.07.09)
40. locus standi must be both against daycare center and
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (08.07.09)
racist mother, unless they sue daycare center at the same time connection cannot be established.
41. Is it a private daycare or a public one?
(08.07.09)
An important question as in private clubs you can make any disctinciton you want (only men, only women, only children, only handicapped, only arabs, only jews, only christians, only muslims, only chinese, etcetera). If however, it is a public daycare, it's another story.
42. do you accept that a jew in the US be treated the same way?
Yael ,   Tel Aviv   (08.07.09)
do you accept that your own child is kicked out of a daycare just because he is Jewish? Answer this question before starting to justify the racist action.
43. Right On
GHook93 ,   Chicago   (08.07.09)
The day care center did the right thing and this Jewish mother was in the wrong! Don't bring politics to your children who are ignorant of it. My children (who are 1 and 3) have mixed classes: Asians, Indians, Blacks and Latinos. None see color or creed, they only see other little children to play with!
44. Hatred and discrimination
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (08.07.09)
For readers who did not know. We are talkign about Israeli-Arabs who live inside proper Israel and have Israeli citizenship. we are not talkign about the palestinians livign in the west bank and Gaza. Jews are welcomed to live in opur communities, they usually do not do it becuase owers are poorer, underdevelopped and lag behind the jewish ones. If you visit Nazareth on Sat you will find the local restaurants full of jewish visitors.
45. Good for you D.'s Parents
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (08.07.09)
You are the kind of people I want as a neighbor here in Tel Aviv. Xenophobic idiots who think we are going to survive as a country when we turn part of our own SUPPORTIVE Arab population against us need to learn a lesson. These people who can not tolerate an Arab infant at a daycare centre make me sick. How do they expect peace if they can not even let children learn it?
46. Islam and Judaism are like oil and water! THEY DONT MIX!
STOP FORCING THEM!   (08.07.09)
Israel must divorce itself from the Arabs and expel them.
47. # 18 You did not read my point carefully
Truth Hertz ,   UK   (08.07.09)
At no point did I claim that Israel was beyond criticism or that we should be 'allowed' to act like most other states in the world. My point is the blatent hypocrisy of those who ONLY criticise Israel. Criticising Israel does not make you an anti-semite but ONLY criticising Israel certainly rings alarm bells in that area. As far as what Israel claims to be and what arab states claim to be, what has that to do with it. Surely the right of individuals to equality is not based on whether the state claims to be democratic. This would mean that discrimination and oppresion are fine as long as a state does not claim to be democratic. Is that what you are saying? Or is it just another excuse to only criticise Jews?
48. Whats the diff? Unlike Arab Apartheid wont sell land to Jew
David ,   Boston, USa   (08.07.09)
It shoudlnt matter if a kids is Arab or Jewish in the daycare as long as they follow the rules. Jews arent like the Apartheid PA Arabs who wont sell land to Jews on threat of death by the PA.
49. To: No. 41
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (08.07.09)
Not accurate. The University Club in New York did not admit women until 1989. Same with The Metropolitan Club and The Union Club. They wanted to remain men-only; New York State said okay, but we will take away your liquor license. Who wants to belong to a club that cannot serve liquor? That's the linchpin that is used to leverage clubs not to discriminate on the basis of gender. A similar protection exists for discrimination on the basis of race. There is discrimination on the basis of religion -- it's actually true that many, many private clubs in the United States will not admit Jews .... but there is no protection with respect to religious discrimination. That said -- I am Jewish, and I do not want to join a club that does not want me as a member.
50. To Sara the racist
ilikadapig ,   hoboken, nj   (08.07.09)
Yes Sara every country has dealt with racism one time or the other, but its sad that Israel a country who was founded by persecuted people would act this way. Its sad that you as a fellow american would condone this. Maybe we shouldnt let Jews own businesses in this country, or let them run for office, or let them into our schools. This is sad and disgusting and you as an american should know this. Its a toddler for petes sake, what trouble is she going to cause? If anything she will pick up hebrew and learn to get along with her fellow peers. I think you should make aliyah to Israel and take your racist attitudes with you. Shalom.
51. No Democracy can survive in the Middle East!
jews and arabs ,   should be separated   (08.07.09)
Democracy = religion. for an arab country to be democratic it would have to stop being Islamic and the arabs will never become democracies!
52. Geyer won and Littwak lost
Jacob ,   Cambridge, UK   (08.07.09)
I always find it ironic that Israelis point to Theodor Herzl as one of the founding fathers of their state. If you read Altneuland, you will find that the policies of modern Israel are those of Rabbi Geyer, Herzl's villain, and that both he and the heroes of his text would be horrified at the state that claims inspiration from them.
53. Day Care Centrer - for whom?
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.07.09)
This is upsetting and frightening. Have we become a society that is so bigoted we cannot accept a 1-year old baby? Remember the laws in Germany in the 1930's? Are we going to repeat that horror? Shame on the local parents!
54. Shame on that woman!!
Chaya ,   Israel   (08.07.09)
A one-year-old Arab baby girl can't be in a day care center with Jewish children?? I am politically on the Right; but I feel this is terrible!! It's discrimination only when it happens to Jewish children in other countries?? The other parents should have sided with the owner of the day care center and not with that stupid woman!
55. jews are in Innately insular
tony ,   uk   (08.07.09)
All religains are insular by their very nature , So what do you think would happen if a jewish child g-d forbid would go to a Muslim school. Or be democratic and have a strong religion such as the muslims have run you over as we experiencing in the uk. It a fine balancing act.
56. yael #42. How many Jews have blown themselves up in America?
m   (08.07.09)
Your comparison is so absurd and to put it delicately unintelligent, that it boggles the mind. Are the Jews and Americans enemies, like the Arabs and Israelis? Comparing apples and potatoes it is.
57. Looking forward to an Arab victory here!
Ronnbo ,   Canada   (08.07.09)
For the first time in my life I am hoping for an Arab to be victorious over a Jew. May the righteous arab family win in Israeli Courts. Shame on the Jewish parents who totally failed to see how to plant seeds of co-existence.
58. Sadly the same would happen in a Msulim Israel daycare
truthteller   (08.07.09)
but it does not make it ok. However, the issue is based on the relaity in Israle that except for a tiny percentage, the communities are separated right down to neighborhoods and the cultures ahve nothing in common. I know this is tough for outsiders to fathom but the truth is you have to go there before you judge. There ARE some successful mixed schools.
59. Apartheid lives !
Dave ,   Cape Town   (08.07.09)
We have many who yearn for the apartheid years - perhaps this will help convince them to emigrate to the land of racial segregation. How easily the oppressed become the oppressors.
60. of course the Arabs do worse
Barney ,   USA   (08.07.09)
but that doesn't make it right. Someone has to make the first step where it is safe and makes sense to do so. This might have been a young Arab child that would not have grown up hating Jews because she had the opportunity to see first hand that they are not the descendants of apes and pigs. The Arabs are wrong in what they do. The Jews sometimes have to act the same way for security reasons but when it is not a security issue, the Jews should show that they are bigger than racism.
