31. Israel, Turkey and water
Brod ,   USA   (10.22.09)
Water? It is time Israel understands that Islamist-Jihadist Turkey has turned its back on Israel and is now sleeping with Israel's enemies in the region. Israel should sever its relation with Turkey and stop doing any business with it especially water.
32. An Islamic Turkey? Not Likely.
Daniel Rey M. ,   Bogota, Colombia   (10.22.09)
Ron B. (# 17): Your comments are contradictory. You warn that Turkey is becoming an Islamic state, then you point out that the army makes the rules. Indeed. So that’s why Turkey will remain secular. In 1980 there was a military coup and all the leftist parties were banned, yet in 1997, when the generals warned that they would not tolerate an Islamic government, in other words, a nonsecular one, the leftists rejoiced at this because they knew that they couldn’t defeat their Islamic rivals without the help of the generals. ***
33. NONONO! Better drink salty, than racist water!
(10.22.09)
The Israeli gov better invest in long-term LOCAL solutions. During the next elections this issue will make or break many political careers! Don't get me wrong - we'll make sure that politicians will be held responsible for all and any of the failures relevant to water. We are paying with hard-earned money for THEIR failures. Enough is enough! Now it's time for THEM to pay with their careeers.
34. Silence from Turkey - how pathetic!
(10.22.09)
I guess the US pressure is more significant than the Iranian one. Otherwise how can one explain the sudden silence of all the Turkish racists and the stupid "apology" of that racist movie blood libel? Suddenly all of them got mute! Suddenly the Turkish Ambassador to the US is trying to plug all the holse made by the imbeciles in Ankara shooting in all directions without thinking. It is good that finaly the US started to pull the leash a bit, strangle the racist Islamists in Turkey and warn the Iraninas to keep off the US sphere of influence. I bet that the Syrians got the same message. Maybe there is still some will and determination left in the US Dept of Foreign Affairs.
35. Don't make such a fuss
Stan   (10.22.09)
and take the water already. You obviously need it.
36. Forget about water....
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (10.23.09)
drink wine and beer :-)
37. Farce, and bad farce at that
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (10.23.09)
OK, now all you Israelis who apparently can't read a map. You can't run a pipeline from Turkey without going through Syria and Lebanon. The price for a pipeline through Syria will be, at the least, the return of the Golan to Syria. As to desalination, it is very expensive and energy intensive. Where is the energy to come from? You can claim all you want that as the exceptional people you are that you really don't need peace, but I think that even the 'exceptional' need to drink.
38. Water
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (10.24.09)
Israel should ration water and equip every household with rain barrels and dew collectors before putting the entire country at the mercy of a foreign power for this most basic of necessities.
39. rabin signed treaties with the palis
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.24.09)
and jordan to give them 35 and 50 million cubes of water per year. We even gave the jordanians more than that. All the water we gave away would have left the Kinneret almost full today. That rabin sure knew how to drive a hard bargain. Fortunately he did not give away more. Those in charge of our water supply and the min of finance should be held accountable for this problem. We could have imported water from turkey years ago when they were our friends. Now we have to deal with our enemies. All public and private gardens should not be watered. I would rather have water come out of our faucets than look at grass and flowers. People still waste water and there is no one giving out tickets with big fines the first time and jail time for the second time.
40. RE;#6 - I already have an even better idea.
Bartley Kulp ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.25.09)
Israel already sells water to the Gaza strip at a discounted price. Instaed of selling the Gazans water from our already depleted supply, let the Gazans by from you Turks instead. Oh sorry, you did not know that Israel piped in water to the Gaza strip for humanitarian reasons? I guess that you will have to go back and start thinking again. It is also true that the water is sold to them at discount. Approx. 20 percent cheaper than it is sold to Israeli residents.
41. be smart or make profits?
Shachar ,   Israel   (10.25.09)
Israel could easily buy water saving showerheads and tap-restrictors for every home. Israel could significantly raise the cost of water for those who use heavily. This money could go to sustainable water desalination. Doing so would provide a lasting supply and demand solution. But Israel isn't doing this. Why?
42. Our stupid leaders keep making bad decisions
JPS ,   Efrat   (10.25.09)
Here we go again. Instead of solving the problem at home, let's go piss away billions of dollars and give it to Turkey instead of using our brains. The same amount of water Israel wants to import from Turkey could be obtained in Israel cheaper, and possibly in greater quantities. Right now, we literally flush billions of liters of clean drinking water down the toilet. The government should immediately do the following: 1) ban cotton crops (egads! we still grow cotton!) 2) mandate that every flush toilet be replaced with a vacuum toilet or water-saving urinal. 3) give every citizen and business a total writeoff on equipment that recycles gray water. 4) Add a zero to the price of all water. Real easy, and we'll cut consumption by up to 50 %. While doing this, the geniuses can also work on plans to stop letting winter rain water run off into the Mediterranean. Turkey is a nice place to visit, but we shouldn't have to use my tax money to buy water from them.
43. 38 M. Hartley: Yes, and put an Ecoloblue 28 Atmospheric
Rivkah   (10.27.09)
water generator in every home, too. That pulls water out of the air (7 gallons a day), filters it and has hot and cold spigots. www.ecoloblue.com is the website.
44. Water
Albi ,   Ashkelon   (10.27.09)
We are so incredibly stupid. For years we have known that we face a water disaster but relied on prayer to save us. If water were oil we'd have more refineries than you could shake a stick at. Water is as important as oil, so why don't we have desalination plants all up the coast??? Ay Mekorot ? The government has failed in it's basic function of providing us with potable water, and we have to pay for their stupidity. Why not reward those who use less water as well as taxing those who use more? By the way, do MK's also pay for their water? Just asking.
45. Turkey has no right to speak ill
Robert Goldman ,   KFAR SABA, ISRAEL   (11.09.09)
As turkey continues to buy Israeli made arms to kill Kurds in Iraq. they cross the Iraqi border in their american made f-16's and drop bombs on what they call suspected PPK Bases which mostly containe women and children and the only PPK members were either there feeding them or so few that the cost of bombing them outweighed the target! OH but wait we are JEWS so it is forbidden for us to defend ourselves as per Turkish thought! I'll bath in wine or beer before i drink turkish water
