61. strange and stranger yet
oferdesade ,   israel   (01.05.10)
Strange how nearly everyone is up against mr aloni – a bit of an alehum, if you ask me. Stranger yet is that not many years ago, if anyone would have presented sentiments of a more right-wing fashion, perhaps from abroad, the response would have been similar – though diametrically divergent. And once again – that evil statement: "who are you to preach from abroad". As if he were my uncle sam from LA telling us to be good to the arabs or mr hipsher telling us to be bad to them – as if it makes the slightest difference one way or another. But yes, they DO have the right to their opinions, as long as they don't take themselves so seriously that they place themselves on the pedestal of judgement. You'd think that by middle age, he (and they) would know better. "we love you but" "don’t take it personally" some of the evilest words in human exchange. Obviously, the man plays on his name – both from the positive aspect (he wouldn't have been educated by minds such as his parents') and the negative (I doubt he really understands the term "suffering" as would – for example – a truly starving refugee whose daughter and sister have just been raped and his baby boy gutted alive by Moslem insurgents in Somalia). You need to feel these things personally and be strengthened by them to derive anything productive thereof. I don't doubt his honesty or motivations. His readings of events however may be somewhat limited by preconceived notions (and – like I said – that's human). We're doing some rotten things, and so are they. To differentiate based on who's the conqueror and who isn't – of course – ignores context, history, prior experience… anything that interferes with the thesis (and that too is human). Unfortunately, it is limiting and – as a result – deters from one's own ability to enforce an ideology by limiting its coherence to those of like mind (preaching to the converted). It's much more difficult to take everything into account, adhere by your ideals and integrate them with objective reality, and then preach them from within a context of complexity. obviously the man's thought patterns are colored by black & white - a metaphor that is used quite often in moral arguments (as any 1st year philosophy student will tell you) but only when convenient. For example, when you ask for explanations of holy wars and the Koran, the very same people who say there is black & white suddenly remember, "oh yes, but this is a grey area". Obviously, there is black and white when it comes to ideologically-led strife. That's why there will never be a solution. It's only when you realize and appreciate the grays of global finance interest, the motivational force of corrupt politicians etc. that you see a glimmer of hope (of course there will never be peace here as long as it's palestinians and jews, just as there could never be peace between france and germany, the catholic church and us….) It's the steel and coal, abu mazen's cement works, taxing the Vatican, olmert's real estate deals, whatsisname's oil and petrol deals, THESE are the forces that bring about peace. Not a bunch of middle aged yobos on some hill spitting at 18-year-old yobos in uniform. As for the respondants below - it's always interesting to note that most elite unit graduates end up further left than center on the political spectrum. They're the ones I admire – they've seen facts, dead people of their own doing, woken up sweating or wetting their beds with images of the dead in their dreams. And if they want to put a stop to it all, it's not because of words. Fact: we are doing some horrible deeds. Fact: we don't know what will work and what won't… only in hindsight. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool. So what are you left with? Improving your own select space of humanity in the most vonnegutean of manners possible. Defocus to the general and you're lost... as is mr aloni.
62. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.05.10)
Who's his daddy? Joe Stalin?
63. B logical
YedLita ,   USA   (01.05.10)
Be logical Udi. be consistent. Do not reside in big bad America, racist Israel, exploiting Europe. Go live in good and wonderful countries like Indonesia, Sudan, Somalia. More importantly yet - WRITE for THEM, not US!!!
64. This is wrong! No Boycott of Israel...
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (01.05.10)
No Boycott of Israel under the following areas: Sports/Academic/Cultural (unless the Israeli participants are from the Palestinian WB). Boycotts of these areas will only have a minimum impact; instead the main trust of the Global BDS Movement should focus on: 1) General Divestment in all sectors 2) Mass Consumer Boycotts of Israeli goods and services (not just those from the illegal settlers in the WB) 3) International Punitive Sanctions 4) Freezing of all diplomatic/military relations I would add that divestment and boycotts of Israel’s military products and services would be key to the whole campaign. Hopefully when enough pressure is applied the Israeli Gov will see sense and stop its illegal occupation of Gaza and the WB and recognize the right for the Palestinians to exist as a separate state.
65. Why not an article that calls for the extermination of Arabs
george ,   la, usa   (01.05.10)
Because that's the exact equivalent of this article you've printed, except if it's against Jews I guess you find that ok.
66. A superb true article
Self Hating Jew ,   New Mexico, USA   (01.05.10)
Too bad it's above the average Israeli ability to grasp.
67. to 62 .the apple fall from a tree
sara ,   jerusalem   (01.05.10)
many people saw it was falling from a tree but only neuton thought why and how .. it was about to think not about apple or tree or earth gravity
68. #59-60 the biggest Israel crime
Keyboard ,   PC   (01.05.10)
is publishing your CAPS LOCK crap on talkbacks.
69. Udi Aloni, u r not alone
not ATİLLA   (01.05.10)
Dumb ATİLLA supports your self-hating.
70. Does this lying coward live in Sderot?
TellerOfTruths ,   Chicago USA   (01.05.10)
Aloni hilariously pens ... "When the state quells the non-violent yet effective resistance..." So rockets launched with the purpose of murdering Jewish children are non-violent? I suppose you mean they are effective because they destroy Jews. Do the whole world a favor and FOAD! But you are too cowardly to either do that OR live in Sderot. Come visit me in Chicago and I will impose a boycott on you. I will make sure you cannot eat which is the purpose of your boycott. Are you willing to do so? Of course you aren't. So very brave. You ask the world to starve children while you fatten yourself. You know no shame what so ever. You are merely yet another in a long line of Kapos willing to sacrifice your fellows for a few pieces of silver. Feh!
71. BDS movement's actions
j. bergman ,   Brooklyn NY   (01.05.10)
There is a good example of wolf in sheep's coat. Disguising anti Israel sentiment in a guise of Truth Justice et. What a shame.
72. no surprises here- dna at work!
OZ   (01.05.10)
aloni's ranting is predictable, given his "pedigree". i never once met a liberal, lefty, who liked his own people. in fact there's always been this vehement disdain to one's group, whether americans ,israelis, etc. in aloni's case, he and his mother would simply rather see israel disappear ,and repalce by some manifastation of bi- culturlal bast... in which jews would be ghettoed again, if at all..... alon'i and his like, should move away from , govt. assisted, and let them live in amman ,ramahla, or beirut. gfy!
73. i agree with you, udi
(01.05.10)
but i doubt that IL will finally see the light in time.
74. Great Article, UDI !
OCCUPATION MAGAZINE ,   JERUSALEM   (01.05.10)
And now - let's get to work. See the magazine
75. BDS sanctions
Ger ,   Raanana, Israel`   (01.05.10)
Why doesn't this organization call for boycotts, divestments, etc., against Palestinian actions which cause death and destruction to Israelis?
76. This author is contemptible and WE SHALL OVERCOME!
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.05.10)
The left will twist and contort fact in any direction to justify it's evil attacks against Israel. This article is a load of rubbish, very thinly disguised Anti-Semitism. It's funny that leftists who froth at the mouth at false allegations of Israeli bad behavior never have anything to say about truly horrendous regimes like those of Iran, China, Syria, Saudi Arabia. The author of this rubbish is contemptible and WE SHALL OVERCOME!
77. how about speaking out for the 1 million jewish refugees
rachel ,   usa   (01.05.10)
kicked out of Arab countries? get off your High Horse and back down to reality ....
78. to 72 oz
of   (01.05.10)
do you think that any palastinian can live in ramalla or amman or biurut ..... friend you do not know any thing about the pals. and their rights palestinians have no choice only to be in his city if it is amman or ramalla or buirut ... but sure you can live wherever you want as you are not palastinian
79. Hypocrisy from this 'lover' of Israel
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (01.05.10)
This self- defined 'lover of Israel' joins in the deligitimization and demonization of Israel which is part of the Palestinian Arab strategy for destroying Israel. Aloni totally ignores Palestinian anti- Semitism, hatred of Jews of Israel, preaching Israel's destruction. He sympathizes with those who would destroy his own people- and criticizes those who defend us against terrorists. Why doesn't he at least be honest and say he loves Israel as much as his mother loves Yossi Sarid.
80. Left radicalism is dangerous
Lana G. ,   USA   (01.05.10)
All this peace-loving, non-violent theory sounds good on paper, but in case of Israel fight for survival is a very dangerous point of view.
81. Our own worst enemy
Joseph ,   Fort Lauderdale, FL   (01.05.10)
Self Hating Jew. That is all you are. Your motivations are twisted. The only way the world will be satisfied is if we are gassed. There is no peace with the Moslem world as it is today. I look forward to hearing of your demise.
82. Sorry BBSNews -it's you who is the illegal settler
JPS ,   Efrat   (01.05.10)
Somehow I doubt that you are a native American - which makes you not just a settler living illegally in North Carolina on land stolen from the natives, but you're probably the desendent of war criminals who helped in the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the native tribes who used to live where you do right now. So, BBSNews, are you going to fess up, bulldoze your home and move back to wherever it is your grandpappy came from? I love it when Americans try to tell me that I'm a squatter when I'm living in my ancestral land that was occupied by invaders. I'm a Levite, meaning I am a direct descendant of the original natives here who were occupied and sent into exile. I'm a member of a specific tribe of Israel where there is no doubt at all that the Levites lived here and that I am a member of that tribe. Sorry, BBS, but I'm a refugee who has returned to my homeland. You, on the other hand, are quite definitely an illegal settler who should be evicted with the other 290 million squatters who have raped America and ethnically cleansed most of the country of its native inhabitants.
83. your problem is being Idealist, rather than realist...
simple man ,   usa   (01.05.10)
I have had similar point of views, thirty years ago, when still I was in university in Tehran, Iran. Thirty years encountering many dilemas brought me to the conclusion that "how much I have been out of touch with realities of the world" or simply saying , how much I have been stupid? If you do not want to move from the convenience of your residence, at least do some effort, and read about the history of Islam. Kindness to cruel, is cruely to kind. If you do not care for your own heritage, at least learn and realize how many cultures, languages, civilizations have been perished under the label of Islam.
84. I agree with you one hundred percent (end)
Ahmadinejad ,   Tehran, Iran   (01.05.10)
85. Dear Udi, do not think you are progressive, ...
someone ,   somewhere   (01.05.10)
your conscious is the same level as your cheerleaders. Look at them, see who are your fans, then you have more awareness to your ego.
86. Look at your cheerleaders, then you have better prospect
someone ,   someweher   (01.05.10)
87. JPS, can you really be that ignorant?
BBSNews ,   Charlotte, NC   (01.05.10)
Seriously, you are insufferable with your lies and your denial. Grow up! Not only have I offered to drive anyone interested straight to the res' so they can learn what the Elders have to say about colonists who come steal land and resources and kill off indigenous peoples, I am actually on my homeland, and in the eyes of the law and the entire civilized world, you are an illegal squatter. There are NO UN resolutions claiming that Indian land is occupied by the United States, we are all Americans first, American Indians second. On the other hand, you won't find a single world leader, who will say that the illegal colonies are anything than what they are, totally undeniably illegal. Here's a hint, that why they have all kept saying so far for decades! Here's a clue, we didn't have the Hague Treaty or the Geneva Conventions, the Palestinians do. Now you go on and slink away in your denial, and I will be secure in knowing the facts in the reality-based world. And you can look forward to either staying in Palestine as a citizen, or returning to sovereign Israel. It will be one or the other, it's a forgone conclusion, like the Goldstone Report.
88. :: JPS - #82
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (01.05.10)
Okay prove it? Prove that you are a ? I'd be interested to see if you are not just another Jewish descendant from one of the many groups that converted to Judaism.
89. BS spews nonstop BS, then blames someone else for ignorance
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (01.05.10)
A look in mirror may (or may not) help calm down such fits of irrational rage
90. Why so many BDS hoaxes?
Jon ,   Lexington, USA   (01.05.10)
If BDS is truly gaining such stunning momentum, then why has not a single college, union or municipality in the US voted "yes" to divestment, despite close to ten years of effort by BDS activists? Why have churches that once supported BDS rejected divestment uninimously? And why have BDS activists gotten caught all through 2009 trying to perpetrate hoaxes masquarading as divestment victories (see http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1259243065278&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull)? While BDS partisans may be increasing their own noise level recently, this does not translate to even minor momentum much less victory.
