31. One minor difference
Yoni R. ,   Modiin, Israel   (01.18.10)
No one in Haiti is launching missiles at Israeli cities. No one in Haiti is sending people to blow up Israeli malls. No one in Haiti is preaching hatred of Israel. If the same were true for Gaza, there would be no security problems letting people from Gaza be cared for in Israeli hospitals.
32. yes, we're all very cheeky, aren't we.
(01.18.10)
Even if Israel really did want to help the gazans, they don't really WANT their help. Just ask them whether or not they agree to any sort of IDF hospital within the Gaza strip, and I bet they will appose, and the Hamas leadership would see to that it will never happen. After 'Cast lead', may I remind you, Israel had a hospital ready for hurt Gazans right at the border, and no one even tried to go close there out off fear of Hamas. Why not help gaza? Because going there is endangering our own lives for ungrateful people who will see it as looking down on them. Try to enter the gaza strip as some sort of help from israel, and you'd be accused of being a secret shin bet agent. There's no winning. We help people who want to help themselves. Hamas needs the ganzans to suffer for propaganda reasons, and having israel helping them put a wedge in their cogs.
33. article is complete delirium
Alex ,   UK   (01.18.10)
What are other responsibilities of Hamas that Israel should do? To start shelling Sderot, maybe?
34. really it would be taken care of in gaza?
max ,   haifa   (01.18.10)
what happened to the green house's and the farmland from gush katif when we evacuated was it taken care of and used for agriculture? no it was turned into rocket launching pads and such. so no a field hospital in gaza would turn into a hiding spot for hamas terroists and when we bomb it because theyre are rockets being manufactured in the field hospital we will be criticized internationaly for attacking a field hospital. bad idea, your an idiot pay attention at least in hati they are gratefull for our help in gaza they would take it and try and kill the medical teams at the same time.
35. When the rockets from Gaza stop.
leoblue ,   TA   (01.18.10)
Perhaps then, Israel would open hospitals and clinics in Gaza.
36. A Field hospital for Gaza
tm   (01.18.10)
Some of you have forgotten that Israel did indeed open a field hospital in Gaza after Cast Iron, but they, the pals did not come at all...so it was closed down. Perhaps the Hamas people would not allow them entry, or perhaps they were afraid to make use of it. Be that as it may the field hospital was close due to non-use on their part. So there!
37. Gaza is at war with Israel
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (01.18.10)
Gaza is a Hamas-made disaster area. As long as Gaza is in a state of war with Israel and its only purpose is Israel's destruction, Israel is not obligated to "rescue" Gaza from itself. When they lay down their arms and surrender, they can have all the rescue missions they want. Were the Allies sending rescue missions into Germany and Japan before they surrendered? Not until the war was OVER.
38.  In Gaza they will be shot at
David G   (01.18.10)
Let us not mince words here; we are talking about critical and basic humanitarian care. So to level the charge that Israelis should take care of Gaza before Haiti implies that they reason they do not is because they see them as less human or to charge that Israelis are inhumane, at least to the Palestinians. And again let us be honest if the Israeli medical services tried to set up a field hospital in Gaza it would be come a target of attack, if not by Hamas then any group or nut with a gun that wants to kill Jews. And once again you end up in a situation where Israel is the evil one. I am sorry but if Israel is already judged as such better that it not put its citizens at risk in the process.
39. Um, yeah, we've already had a field hospital in Gaza
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (01.18.10)
Well actually we couldn't put it in Gaza, since that would be "occupation", but during Cast led the IDF set up a field hospital exactly like the one we sent to Haiti on the Gaza Border. It operated for two days, during which time not a single patient arrived (probably due to Hamas's thinly veiled threat to kill anyone who came to the hospital). Said hospital was then shut down. By the way Mr. Plocker, memory loss could be a sign of serious health problems, please consult your doctor.
40. Sever Plocker lost the thread of his article ..
jane ,   London - UK   (01.18.10)
The article starts with "Israel should establish Gaza field hospital", but doesn't of course expand on such nonsense, and instead ends with a whimper. "Have you been to Gaza already?". The article is nothing more than a rant by someone that had nothing better to write about, and shouldn't have been published. Jane
41. Israel was nearly first in Haiti!
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (01.18.10)
Israel should absolutely have gone to Haiti. Unlike the Gazans we don't take and steal! No Israeli should set foot in Gaza unless it is the IDF to take back the Philadelphi corridor. The Gazans chose terrorists in an election. They are deserving of their situation. The Palis have squandered $7 BILLION and stolen it mainly from the EU taxpayer. The Israeli taxpayer has no responsibility to the terrorist entity on our border. The Israeli government has the responsibility to protect Israelis from terror!
42. god lefties got short memory Israel did
ghostq   (01.18.10)
stablished field hospital but no gazan came, so Israel closed it cause it cost mony this article is useless.
43. who is he to decide who deserve it or not
ghostq   (01.18.10)
Haitian r innocent people who barly made their living, and now they got completely nothing, gazan on the other hand make 2 million dolars Hamas celebrations. in other words Israel help the helpless and not the criminals.
44. Amen,Without name calling sir .
American   (01.18.10)
all the PR work you do now or in the past will not help your criminal atrocities against the Palestinian people . the whole world is pointing finger at you as occupiers and criminals ..and you still shamelessly send aid mission around the world .. this is the joke of the 21st century . agree 100% with the writer ,a bunch hypocrites 101. you elected a radical government ,and so does the palestinians in Gaza. if you want to call them terrorists ,and so does the world calls you .
45. The moral idiocy of the left - Plocker has truly lost it
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.18.10)
What a truly ludicrous comparison. And rather ignorant of history to boot. Plocker seems to forget that Israel *built* Gaza's first major health facilities during the early decades of that hated "occupation". And, as others have reminded him, provided a field hospital at the border after Cast Lead - and it was closed because those in Gaza chose not to take advantage of it. Truly, Israel owes Gaza nothing. Not water, or fuel, or medicines. (Israel didn't pre-1967.) But she provide them anyway, though Gaza remains an enemy entity. That Israeli field hospital resolved a problem birth when no one else could, and the mother named the baby "Israel". Have any of the thousands of Arabs Israel has helped done likewise?
46. #10 says it all Plocker
Israeli grandmother   (01.18.10)
Your article is a travesty, perhaps your current medication has affected your thinking processes?. When your head clears, just look up the records of the Cast lead campaign (not the NGO's and European versions)
47. Israel is part of the world community.
vered ,   israel   (01.18.10)
As far as Gaza, Gaza belongs to Hamas. What are they doing for their people?
48. Gaza can pay for their own hospital
(01.18.10)
instead of buying hardware to lob into Israel. Haiti didn't send continual rocket fire into neighbouring states. What happened there is devestating - and it wasn't brought on by them.
49. #13 - why is it a good article?
jane ,   London - UK   (01.18.10)
You note some things that are wrong with this ill thought out article but used the heading, "Good Article". The only good thing about the article would have been not publishing it. Jane
50. Most residents of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip wish to emigrat
Ron B. ,   Lod   (01.18.10)
A Palestinian poll released This month showed that most residents of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip wish to emigrate, compared to 25 percent in the West Bank. According to the poll, 74 percent of Gazans support continuing the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in the Strip. The poll showed that 64 percent believe the Western-backed Abbas’ term should end now. The poll was released by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research. Pollsters surveyed 1270 Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. The margin of error was 3 percentage points. The time has come for these people to stop with politics and terrorism and search for a solution for their families based on well-being and peace. Most of the inhabitans of Gaza hope for this solution as explained at : http://xrl.us/bjg97
51. trying to compare Gaza - Haiti shows misunderstanding
zionist forever   (01.18.10)
The Gazans are not short of food, or water. In Haiti people are starving, They have said there are not bodies piling up in the streets in Gaza. In Gaza as a result of war damage many people are homeless until they can rebuild but they are not dying and rebuilding efforts are underway. Gazans have access to medical hospitals in Haiti they don't. In Gaza they could have all the materials but they use them to dig tunnels so they can bring in weapons to kill Israelis. Its a problem they are brining onto themselves. in Haiti they can't say we want to leave Israel alone now so now everything can improve very quickly, Sure life is hard in Gaza right now but there is no comparison to Haiti either physically or politically and if the author can't understand that then the author doesn't seem to understand either situation. This is the kind of comparison Israel hating idiots George Galloway would be making..
52. There is already a foreign volunteer
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (01.18.10)
physician who visits Gaza on a regular basis to do his medical work. His name is "Ben Alufs". He normally resides in the UK (Wales) where he has his own clinic. He is an occasional contributor to Ynet and Haaretz Talkbacks. For your information, he believes Hamas is justified to hold Gilad Shalit and makes no remark about the lack of visitation by the Red Cross. He also thinks that Hamas is justified in launching missiles against Israel but nary a word about physical damage to our citizens nor any of the mental anguish caused by these attacks. So if you wish to see to it that Gazans receive the medical care which you believe is warranted, perhaps you could volunteer with Dr. Alufs (you can google him), Mr. Plocker, and in this way you could forstall writing another article berating us on why we ourselves don't assist the Gazan populace. And thank you for your (needless)concerns.
53. akiv eldar article
palestinian ,   Jerusalem ,palestine   (01.18.10)
in Haaretz is really a complement to this article .. no comment . even the fishermen in Gaza are not safe from your piracy and you wounder why they hate you . from the moment the criminal Sharon pulled out of Gaza ,he enforced the blockade and turned it to a big prison .. Gazans do not need your field hospital ..just leave them alone and they would do the same .
54. Gaza VS Haiti disaster
Mohammed ,   Palestine   (01.18.10)
Haiti was a natural disaster . Gaza was not ,it was made by an Israeli Hand . now let us see who has a short memory here . Israelis have short memory ,not the writer . by the way ,we really don't need your help ,Thanks ...but no thanks .
55. Always severed from reality !
trumpeldor   (01.18.10)
Now it is delirium
56. Plocker youre not intelligent
non-self hating Jew ,   Israel   (01.18.10)
What a moronic article to write? What a humanitarian liberal you are to not care about over 50 times more people suffering a worse situation in Haiti? You should be ashamed of yourself and should never be in the position you are at YNet, you self-hating Jew.
57. Disgusting comparison
Rosie   (01.18.10)
The rulers of Gaza have continued to STEEL, put into their pockets, all the funds that are send to help their people. They officials like it that way. Arafat died with a fortune of $3.2 BILLION. What did he do in his besides kill. He did not discover a cure for cancer. He stole all the money that was contributed by the nations of the world to help Gaza.
58. Israel did and closed it down when Hamas refused to let peop
Eric ,   Tel Aviv   (01.18.10)
Steve, Where were you? Last January Israel did set up such a hospital last year and closed it down when Hamas refused to let people visit it. Israel had full services staffed 24 hours 7 days and no one from Gaza was allowed to use it for fear of being shot by Hamas.
59. to #53
give us a break....   (01.18.10)
"even the fishermen in Gaza are not safe from your piracy and you wounder why they hate you ." Yeah right.... that's when the Palestinians started to hate us, when we started to bomb them out of the blue and with no reason whatsoever. Great knowledge of history you have there.
60. Thank you, but!!!
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.18.10)
Sir, with my deep appreciation for your words, but I like to remind everyone that the Palestinians who participated in building More than a State, and built the giant financial institutions in the five continents, these Palestinians are not looking for humanitarian aid, but about freedom and justice
