31. The comments on this article are disgusting
A.Kane ,   Rutgera University   (03.30.10)
Regardless of whether your Israeli or Palestinian..a 15 year old was killed. These kinds of sentiments are exactly why there wont be peace in the middle east. The kid approached a fence so he deserves to be shot?? Here in america we have a fence blocking the Mexican border with the American one. According ro some of the Israeli comments the US would be justified in shooting every mexican by the border???
32. Study the reply #24! That is an example of ideology;
Mikael ,   Europe   (03.30.10)
Surely by an intelligent, well spoken person that use rationale in a way that it turns evil. Can you see what fallacies he does and how difficult some could have in arguing them? He might even be able to write a chapter in “handbook” about moral of IDF?
33. The story is simple. Israel has left Gaza completely…
Ron B. ,   Lod   (03.30.10)
The passages were open. Money was sent to Gaza. We suggested aid in many ways – economically, medically and otherwise… Still I have not heard until now a single person who could explain to us reasonably: why are they firing rockets against Israel? The most disruptive force in the Israeli-Arab conflict is Iran. There is no international pressure at all on Iran to withdraw its tentacles from the Palestinian territories, and to stop using Hamas and Hezbollah to torpedo any movement towards peace barely as soon as it begins. More about Iran at : http://xrl.us/bebdkm
34. #31. Your argument is is unrealistic...
Paul ,   USA   (03.30.10)
Do terrorists wear a sign, saying that they're a terrorist ? How is the IDF supposed to know who is planting a bomb, and who is herding sheep and goats ? Are you aware of the rocket attacks suffered by the Israelis? Suicide bombers? Etc, Etc. And if the Mexican government, decided to start lobbing rockets across the border, and sending homocide bombers into the US, I would like to think that even Obama might take some kind of action.
35. You can bleat the word "apartheid" as
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (03.30.10)
much as you want, Nour, but you should know that you have used it incorrectly. he word relates to internal occupation of territory. Arabs in >Israel have all the same geographical rights as any other citizen. Repeating the term does not make you correct although it has been an effective propaganda tool.
36. #35 internal?
Nour ,   Palestine فلسطين   (03.30.10)
Robert, care to enlighten me about where the line between "internal" and "external" is drawn by Israel - if any? See my point? Palestinians in the West Bank can't even dig wells, while the settlers enjoy water theme parks and fountains. If that is not occupation AND apartheid, I frankly don't know what is. The world is waiting to be enlightened by you Robert.
37. :: Ron B - #33 - usual lies
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (03.30.10)
Except for of course Gaza airspace, Gaza coastal waters, Gaza ‘buffer zone’ inside Gaza, etc. <… Still I have not heard until now a single person who could explain to us reasonably: why are they firing rockets against Israel? > 1) All of the above points re: Israeli occupation of Gaza 2) The Palestinian people are still under Israel occupation and oppression (Gaza and the WB) 3) Israel continues to build on Palestinian land 4) Israel continues to destroy Palestinian land and houses 5) Israel continues to kill innocent Palestinian civilians 6) Israel continues with its policy of collective punishment 7) Israel continues with war crimes/human rights abuses against the Palestinian people eg; using them a human shields 8) Israel continues with its policy of mass arrests and detention without charge or trial ...to name but a few reason. Now can all the Ynuts here ask themselves this very simple question: Q: If Jews/Israelis were subjected to the 8 points above would they (Jews/Israelis) just accept this reality and do nothing OR would they fight back and resist such a brutal occupation and oppression?
38. Ron B. #34 Surely you can understand
Mikael ,   Europe   (03.30.10)
that Gaza is in a extreme siege. A siege is when an “occupying” force is in total control of a closed area; controlling the sea, the air, and land travel, blocking its people from movement, comers, medical assistance, study and so on. People got its first shipment of cloths for months yesterday, just on the whims of people in control. It is definitely an act of war, an aggressive and inhuman act on a society. Do you need better explanations?
39. Have you heard of Rules of Engagement
A.Kane ,   RU   (03.30.10)
For starters its now uncertain if the IDF even shot this kid but more importantly I'll use your point your right because most terrorist organizations don't uniforms its hard to discern them from civilians. Here is where rules of engagement come into play. You have to positively ID a threat before firing. Firing on threat is applicable if the target is in possession of a firearm and poses an immediate danger to those around him...If the IDF did shoot this kid where was his weapon and what was he doing wrong
40. #38 Actually, I do need a better explanation...
Paul ,   USA   (03.30.10)
Hamas is a terrorist entity, that has sworn to do whatever it takes, to destroy Israel. Even with the blockade in place, they still manage to smuggle in arms. They fire rockets at Israeli civillians ( A war crime ). What steps would you take to protect the populace ? Would you allow commercial traffic to go unchecked into an area, that is controlled by people who want to see you dead ? Think about it ! Also, recent pictures from Gaza show quite a lot of activity in the markets. People do not apper to be starving, from what I've seen.

in case you didn't read the papers for the pat 8 years, israel is pout of gaza. but the hamas terrorists insist in crossing the borders to kill jews in israel and also send 13,000 missiles into innocent israeli civilian towns. israel left, hoping that the palestinians in the gaza strip will do something positive with their lives and economy considering the billions of dollars every country is giving them. but they chose terror and missiles instead against israel after israel left. hamas uses 13-21 years old youth to carry terror attacks and pays their family for martyrdom. they also get these children to carry their missiles and go to the fence to plant bombs and attack israeli soldiers on the israeli side of the border. they deserve what they get.
42. IDF Denies Killing
Harvey ,   Queens, USA   (03.30.10)
Jpost says that the IDF denies killing. Even the BBC has removed the story. It looks like another Palesitnian fabrication.
43. #39 The Rules of Engagement..
Paul ,   USA   (03.30.10)
This is what makes fighting the terrorists so difficult. They do not follow the rules of engagement. They use Mosques and ambulances to store and transport weapons. Surely you understand that the choice of weapon that they is use is a concealed bomb. Witness countless statements from NATO forces, regarding this issue. The IDF are not the only ones in this difficult position. For Hamas, it's a win - win. Kill an unarmed palestinian in a military zone, and it's a propoganda win. They also win if the kill or wound any Isaeli citizen.

gadi ,   idf   (03.30.10)
i understand your point, but: im an officer in the idf and i was in the cast lead operation. we have witnessed several time, with our own eyes, how kids (maybe 13-17y old) shooting with a rifle to our direction, without excersise and knowhow, shot dead by our forces. but then, while other "civilians" noticed him being shot dead, they run to the body, stripping him from his weapon and sometimes shoes and money, to use the gear again against us. we've seen these incidents so many times occuring maybe 50-100 meters from us. then, when the media runs to capture the body, it looks like an un-armed civilian - and that's where their propaganda war against us starts. so again, i do understand your point, but the media doesn't always know what really happened. and i AM sensitive about people dieing, i'd love to have peace right now if it was possible, but after giving back gaza and seeing that what they are doing is only firing more qassams with the intention to harm just ANY jew, then i must say, there shall be never peace between the two. unfortunately, the weaker will suffer, and those are the people in gaza and west bank. happy holidays
45. #36 - Pals given permits for 147 wells since 2006
William ,   Israel   (03.30.10)
Yet, they only dug 32 of them. Why? Certainly not because they "can't even dig wells" as you claim. Again, Apartheid is used for "internal" subjugation. Israel might not have drawn boundaries, but "Palestinians" sure have and make it known that they are NOT Israelis and even claim to be a unique population. So, how are "Pals" citizens of Israel? They aren't, hence #35 accuracy on your blatant mis-use of definitions for political ends.
46. #37 - Rockets = war crimes, Matty
William ,   Israel   (03.30.10)
Not matter how you try to justify it, the use of rockets by Hamas denotes war crimes and are never, ever justified under any situation. Or did you miss that remark in the Goldstone Report and Amnesty Intl reports?
47. #38 - Really? That's not what the BBC said
William ,   Israel   (03.30.10)
2 weeks ago the BBC sent a reporter to Gaza to report on the "Gaza siege". What he reported back was the normality of life in Gaza and the over-flowing stalls of food, housewares, car parts, etc. The reporter noted that without outside articles stating the siege, you'd never know it from standing inside Gaza. You can claim whatever you want to fit your biased agenda, but when the BBC can't even spin it anymore, it's must REALLY be a lie.
48. #44 Gadi
Cags ,   London   (03.30.10)
Re the 1st paragraph of your post - you let them do that right under your nose? Sounds like IDF propaganda more like.
49. Gaza is no longer "occupied"
William ,   Israel   (03.30.10)
The claims that the sea and air are controlled by Israel is considered an "occupation" is pure bunk. According to the Oslo Accords, signed by Arafat in 1994, Israel retains the right to Gaza borders and airspace until such time that Gaza becomes a sovereign entity. That was on-track until Arafat started his terror war to gain concessions. It was again given a chance in 2005 when Israel withdrew in the hopes Gaza would move towards State-building. They did not. Rather, Hamas proclaimed that they will not honor ANY past peace agreement with Israel and is intent on destroying them. OK - so here on two points, Israel's action is NOT "occupation": 1) Israel is adhering to the Oslo Accords which allows control of borders but NO presence inside Gaza. 2) Gaza, being a hostile entity, is allowed to be militarily control to a point that does not create war crimes (which it doesn't) and does provide security for all civilians on both sides (which it does). Until Gaza becomes a sovereign nation, it is obligated to Israel and Egypt to monitor the situation. Egypt handles her borders and Israel blocks her's (as is allowed by law), while still providing fuel and electricity, which it does not have to do under law.

Dave ,   Bs.Aires-Argentina   (03.31.10)
Sir, thank you for your very clear and clever statement regarding the war in Gaza. Also, I wish to share this fact with you all : I remember that, here in Argentina, at the time of the Gaza Disengagement, we were in touch with a world wide NGO that was collecting money to buy the greenhouses and agricultural gears of the former Jew settlements, in order to donate them to the Gazans, with the purpose of improving their capacity to produce vegetables, either to internal consumption or to export. Almost all people in my congregation put some $ to achieve this goal. But we were VERY, VERY dissapointed when, at the very minute that Israel left the Strip, the Gazans proceed TO DESTROY the installations that surely, would give them a better life. May be this little story could throw some ligtht regarding the behavior of the people in Gaza, that without any doubt, WAS and IS misled by their corrupt leaders. Also, people, keep in mind that a death of a person in ANY side, is a regrettable human tragedy. God willing, may be someday will be PEACE in this HOLY and tiny piece of land.
53. fence stop people, why shoot anyway?
