Thank you for your thoughtful post but please let me correct you on a few minor points. The Western Wall is not an integral part of Israel as it is located in the Israeli occupied part of East Jerusalem. While you may not wish to accept this fact please rest assured that this is the opinion of the Israeli government. For example the recent Union for the Mediterranean conference to approve a joint strategy for guaranteeing the water resources of the whole Mediterranean basin could not reach a conclusion as Israel would not accept the term "occupied territories" but instead insisted upon the term "territories under occupation". Now to you this may seem like petty hair splitting but you must recognize and accept that Israel continues to call Gaza, the West Bank, Golan and East Jerusalem ‘occupied’ land even if you are blind to this fact. As for your claim that the Jordanians would not let Jews visit East Jerusalem, well this is just plain rubbish. The facts of the matter are that the Israeli government asked the Jordanians as part of the 1949 Armistice Agreements not to allow any Jews enter East Jerusalem for their own protection. As for the so called destruction of the Jewish Quarter this was done so because the building themselves were in such a state of decay and unsafe that they posed a real risk to those living there. I hope this helps you understand what really happened.
