68. Do it, just do it, Israel!
Miros ,   Caesarea   (04.17.10)
Fine just do it: annul the Israeli law in East Jerusalem, revoke its annexation and leave East Jerusalem and all its residents alone (which means with PA and the west Bank). It's a lovely good idea. Nobody - including the Arab residents of East Jerusalem - ever asked Israel to give out IL IDs and provide social benefits to the East Jerusalem palestinians. What every body in the world asks Israel is to terminate the ocupation of East Jerusalem.
69. Time to say goodbye... to all jews in palestine

76. #69 Marwan. Get ready for "Palestinians" to inundate Jordan.
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.17.10)
#69 Marwan. I would be more than delighted for the next war to be the last one in which Israel agrees to cope with intolerable "Palestinian" poseurs. After Israel wins the next war, Jordanians, like yourself, should prepare to be inundated by "Palestinians". You should be delighted at the prospect, Marwan, since you love them so much.
77. MOST OF YOU ARE SELF HATERS OF YOURSELF ! ...LETS BE ...
... HONEST ,   ATİLLA KARAGÖZOĞLU   (04.17.10)
78. the city and country is divided in fact
dani   (04.18.10)
jews have a rich history, and israel has been a stunning success story. israel does not need to annex or occupy east jerusalem or the west bank for any reason ... other than security reasons. if a real peace can be achieved, i say who cares? let them have east jerusalem. the can call it their capital and make up all sorts of interesting history. jesus was a palestinian. the maccabees were palestinians. the temple never existed...blah blah blah. who cares? just divide the country -- its already divided in practice, and give them their slice to do with what they wish. make the border with jordan and let that border become king abdullah's problem. who knows, maybe this will turn into the only democratic and economically successful arab state? one can dream?
79. They Pay Taxes. W/o Representation...
Joe ,   USA   (04.18.10)
The article is not genuine in the sense that East Jerusalemites "pay income taxes , pay VAT taxes and pay the arnona ( real estate tax) , so if they get "services" they had already paid for them themselves....
80. what is there to say?
Ori   (04.18.10)
I really find it very difficult to say anything in response to the article, and on top of it the overwhelming expression of agreement. If this is a representative sample of the public sentiment, it just isn't the same country anymore, and in my personal opinion that's simply sad beyond words. Let me simply try to appeal, at least, to practicality-- from the simplest standpoint. If, indeed, there remains public agreement that the Old City at least should remain undivided-- if indeed those of you who responded favorably to the author's suggestion still hold that position-- how do you think it will be advanced by a unilateral retreat of such proportions? What will the negotiators negotiate about next? I only point those of you who think otherwise to the record of recent history. It wasn't very long ago that a weary prime minister Olmert, having lost his national pride, besought the country to lose it as well with a public pronouncement to the effect that not all of Jerusalem was holy to him anymore. His precise words: "Did we really have to annex Shuafat?" Having offered the Palestinians those neighborhoods so publicly and without resistance, it didn't take many months before reports leaked that he had-- either out of a continued evolution on the question of Jerusalem's holiness or out of an utter lack of remaining bargaining options or both-- offered them the Temple Mount and the Old City as well. The accounts of the Camp David round of negotiations testify to a similar pattern, if I'm not mistaken. Barak surprised Arafat with an unprecedented offer of virtually the entire West Bank and all of the Arab neighborhoods of East Jerusalem-- notwithstanding an overwhelming tide of public opposition at the time that was so strong that his spokesman flatly denied it. It was only days later that the Temple Mount was divided-- and only a few months later on the shores of Sharm-el-Sheikh that the weary general begged the little terrorist for nothing more than a recognition of the Temple Mount's history in return for everything. Notwithstanding the highly objectionable departure from the Zionist enterprise that the author's suggestion represents, it simply isn't a winning strategy. I suppose I can imagine it's appeal from a completely dispassionate, tactical standpoint-- though I would never contemplate it in a million years if it were up to me-- but the track record is clear. If the Temple Mount is sacred to you, you don't cede East Jerusalem.

83. Why donot you appoint Lieberman as President &this GUY as PM
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (04.18.10)
Lieberman must be immedaitly Israeli President and this GUY BACHOR his PM They will fasten all processes and ease all the paths, I do not know Israilis but PALESTINIANS NEED YOU!!!
84. The problem with Bechor's good idea
Clear Thinker ,   Haifa, IL   (04.19.10)
The problem with Bechor's good idea is that if it were implemented, all of western Jerusalem might well find itelf under Palestinian fire. That would be the end of Jerusalem as an important city of Israel.
85. Time for the USA to say good-bye!
Marlene N. ,   New York City   (04.19.10)
Look at the money that amounts to billions that we give you. How many Palestinians did you kill today, how many Palestinians were evicted from their homes without warning? How many Palestinians are left with nothing but rubble? Time for the USA to say good-bye and fend for yourself. We should not be supporting oppressive societies, especially those who want to delude the world into thinking how humane they are while carrying out their crimes against humanity.
86. #64 Birdi, posts 42 and 44 are not mine
Ben Alofs ,   BANGOR, Gwynedd   (04.19.10)
The only post I have contributed to this Talkback was number 27. The others are written by an anonymous fraud, who is uncapable of debate with me. His tactic is to post fraudulent Talkbacks impersonating me, because I am critical of Israel's policies and a critic of Zionist ideology. I noticed that others like Matty Groves and Michael Hess, who are also known for their criticism of Israel's policies, have been targeted by the same idiot. The same kind of thing happened and still occasionally happens at the Haaretz Talkbacks. The fraudsters are invariably Zionist supporters targeting people critical of Israel. What they all share - apart from their dishonesty - is their lack of neurones.
87. #86 Ben Alofs
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (04.21.10)
Why are you critical of 'Zionist ideology" and therefore by default 'Israel's policies? Do you not believe we Jews should have a secure homeland, ISRAEL? ...there's archaeological proof that backs our moral right to be here, and international law that backs the right to land obtained in (a) defensive war(s). Well?......in your eyes, do we not deserve a homeland?.....in spite of being here first?
